It's beginning to look a lot like something.

We put up the tree today, and the decorations. Yay! We've got the radio station that is playing all xmas music on. For whatever reason, James Taylor's Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas just totally soothes me.

And now Happy Xmas (War Is Over) is on, which is the first time I've heard it this season, which means the xmas season has now officially begun. [cheer]

And now, I will put up the story:

In the days when Herod was king of Judea, Mary was visited by an angel.
The angel said, "You shall bear a son and call Him Jesus."
In those days, everyone went to the city of his ancestors to be taxed.
Joseph had to go to Bethlehem, the city of David.
Joseph and Mary made the long journey together.
When they reached Bethlehem, the city was full of people.

...people who were robots?
Probably not. [frown]

t'key ghee fa

Yeah. I wish.

I believe I need to write something like 3300 words for the next 25 days in order to hit my desired goal. Hmm. Do I have 82,500 words to say? Somehow, I doubt it. But we'll try anyway.

"We". Like I have a rat in my pocket or something.

I still need to go back to working on my story. It's been almost a week since I last looked at it. If I go much longer, I'm afraid I'll lose my interest in it completely, (it's happened before) and who knows when (or if) I would get it back again.

Last night I had some crazy ass dreams.

I was on the Lost island, and was walking along with Sayid, Locke, and someone else, who I can't remember. There was plenty of conversation, but, of course, now I can't remember any of it. I do remember that it was highly engrossing. We were interrupted by a rumbling in the trees. Locke bent down and picked up some rocks. A stegosaurus  (!!!!) emerged from the forest, running toward us. Locke hurled his rocks at the dinosaur, and it did about as much damage as throwing a stone at a school bus would do. The prehistoric animal continued trampling toward us, and we jumped out of the way in the nick of time as it barreled past us.

The dream jumped - or I don't remember what happened in between then - to where the four of us were now looking for food. Sayid, Locke, and other person were picking up the stegosaurus droppings and eating those. (Yuck!) They said that it wasn't very tasty, but that it contained plenty of nutrients, and there was nothing else around to eat, so...

I refused to eat dinosaur poop, believing that there must be something else to eat around the area. Locke picked up a couple of eggs (chicken eggs? Dinosaur eggs? I don't know) and asked me if I wanted to eat those instead. I said that would be great, and thank you. He pulled a pan out of nowhere, and the next thing I knew, I was eating some very tasty eggs.

When the dream ended, it was pretty much a promo for next week's episode of Lost. There was an announcer and everything. "Next week is the episode you Can. Not. Miss."
It appeared to be a Michael-centric episode, and it seemed to show that Michael had lost a baby on the island right before - or right after? - the crash. His ex-wife (who, in the show has died) was on the island, and either gave birth while going over a waterfall, or shortly before. Michael was shown holding onto a screaming infant that was going to go over the falls.

It was intense, but I remember detachedly thinking, "Oh, come on!! He loses his son AND a baby?!?"

Suddenly, I was no longer a part of the show, but was in my parents house. We were all watching the preview for next week, and were talking about the "baby episode", when suddenly my dad went batshit insane. He started screaming at my step mom, throwing objects, and acting completely unreasonable and very very scary. I was trying to calm him down (I have no idea what set him off) but he then directed his anger at me.

Right before the dream ended, he calmed down and apologized, but man, that was freaky.

Well, now I have to go watch the Maury Povich show. Which I will never be able to watch the same way again, due to South Park. "Oh yeah? I'll crap in Maury's pants! Whatever! I'll do what I want!" Heh.

*****

It is freaking COLD out side. And we're still two weeks away from the official start of winter.
Note to self: when we revert back to nomadic, hunter-gatherer type of lifestyles - make sure that we travel to places that are warm. But not too warm. Because I can't stand the heat, either.

I think it's time for a bunch of questions. Because that builds the word count, and because I can not think of anything else to talk about right now.

I have been wanting to do this bunch of questions for a while. All of the following questions are movie titles. Hooray!

<b> Who's Harry Crumb? </b>

<b> What's the Worst That Could Happen? </b>

<b> Are We There Yet? </b>

<b> What the #$*! Do We (K)now!? </b>

<b> Who Framed Roger Rabbit </b>

<b> What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? </b>

<b> O Brother, Where Art Thou? </b>

<b> Shall We Dance? </b>

<b> Guess Who's Coming To Dinner </b>

<b> Car 54, Where Are You? </b>

<b> Dude, Where's My Car? </b>

<b> Where Were You When The Lights Went Out? </b>

Undoubtedly, there are a gabillion other movies I could use, but I'm not in the mood to go researching them now. In fact, I'm pretty hungry right now, so maybe I'll go have lunch, even though it's only 11:16.

Back in February of 1989, when I was 13 years old, we lived in Utah. A friend of mine, whom I will call Brian Haney, because that was his name, was older than I was. He had gone snowmobiling many times, and asked me to come along with him. My parents agreed to let me, and so off we went.

Once we got there, (or maybe on the way, I don't know) Brian informed me that there was an age restriction. You had to be 14 years old in order to get one of the snowmobiles from the ski resort we were going to. That wasn't a problem for Brian, since he already met the arbitrary age requirement. I, however, still had four months to go. It was agreed upon that I would just lie, since they never asked for proof of one's age - besides, how exactly could I provide proof? I didn't have a driver's license. So. When I filled out the form, I wrote that my birthday was either that day, or a few days before. (My brain initially thought that this was on Feb. 14th, 1989, but I just looked at that was on a Tuesday, which probably means it wasn't then. Feb. 14th, 1988 was a Sunday... so maybe I got the year wrong. And maybe it wasn't even February 14th at all, but for some reason, that date is sticking in my mind. So I think I put that my birthdate was the 14th of February, rather than the 14th of June, but that the actual renting of the snowmobile might have been some date later in February. [shrug] Sorry the story is so crap, but that's what you get when you have such a poor memory like I do.)

Anyway. I lied on the form, it was accepted, and we got on our snowmobiles and began to follow our tour guide. He instructed us on how to operate the snowmobile - the accelerator on the right handlebar, the brake on the left.
Everything was going great. Our group of about ten snowmobilers were all driving along, following a premade path for the machines that wound through the forest. I saw a squirrel zip across and was feeling pretty ecstatic about the whole snowmobiling thing.

Then.

I smacked the snowmobile into a wooden pole, crushing the front and pretty much making the machine undriveable.
My head whipped forward  and my helmet hit the handlebars. The seatbelt pulled on me and my shoulders were sore for about a day afterward. I remember I actually thought - and may have even said out loud - "I am dead."

I wasn't, obviously (unless this whole past sixteen years have been the delirium dream of a dying preteen on a snowmobile in Utah), but it's funny that I had that thought, because I WISHED i had died.

I don't remember much else about this story. I do recall that Brian laughed at me, and that our friendship pretty much dissolved shortly after that. (He really was sort of a prick. Who laughs at their friend when they get into an accident?) The damage ended up being paid for by my dad, and it was about $500 to get it repaired.
I don't know that anything ever came of my age deception, or if the snowmobile people even ever found out. Of course, I had more pressing concerns at the time, what with having wrecked a very expensive piece of machinery and all, but. Yeah.

No real point to that story, and I don't know why I was thinking of it the other day, but I don't believe I've told it in my blog before, so ...now I have.

Our computer at home only has 48% free space left in its memory. Which totally explains why it is running so slow. I bet there are plenty of programs that we could delete in order to free up more room. Or, we could be American about it and just buy a whole new computer...

I hate money.

*****

Well, apparently I'm about half way to the three thousand goal so far. Boring!

A female employee who works in Master Control - she got hired in that department after I had already left, so I haven't had much interaction with her - called in on Sunday. It was like 30 minutes before her shift was supposed to start, and she called her relief, telling him that she was going to kill herself.
She was reportedly very drunk while on the phone, and sounded very stressed. (Obviously.)

The guy she called talked to her for about an hour, trying to calm her down. He called his supervisor, who called HIS supervisor, because nobody had her address anywhere. Her address is in the HR computer, of course, but HR is locked, and nobody could get hold of the employee who has the key.

Eventually, her resume was found in the Master Control Supervisors office, and her address and phone number were on there. Hoping that it was still accurate, the number was called, and there was no answer. They called the apartment offices of where she lives and made them aware of the situation. The apartment manager called the paramedics, who broke into her apartment and discovered her passed out and very very intoxicated. She was revived, and the paramedics passed on the info to the apartment folks who called the Master Control Supervisors back to let them know she was okay.

Her days off are Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Calls to her home have not been answered.

From what I have heard, and from the little interaction I have had with her, this is extremely out of character for her. The main belief is that she is not answering her phone due largely to embarrassment over the entire ordeal, but I am still pretty worried about her. We'll have to see what happens on Thursday, I suppose.

I just hope that she doesn't get fired over this. That would piss me off majorly.
Of course, I also don't know the entire story. I've been getting all of the above info 3rd hand and have not yet talked to anyone directly involved, so [shrug]. Another semi pointless story from me, I guess.

*****

And, now another work day has come to a successful close. And, yet again, I have not done diddly squat on my story. Don't I know that I only have six more months to complete it before it "happens"? Well, technically, that isn't true, since it "began" back in the 1960s. But still.

I'll send this off, and then later add in the xmas story sentence. I hope that there are explosions in today's installment. Explosions or robots or time travel. That would be cool.

Welcome. You've got mail!

I also have a headache. i think that work causes headaches. or maybe i need glasses. or both.

i was the Frog again today, but not for money. A promo was being made for the premiere of Peter Jackson's new movie, King Kong, of which our station is going to be somehow involved. So, for the commercial, Michigan j. frog (as played by me) will grab a blonde model and swat away planes. Yay!

I got this email at work today. Found it somewhat amusing, thought i'd share. (See, if they limit your freedoms in creative ways, it makes it easier to tolerate!)

So, email...
Titled:
Twas the night before the server crashed and all your files were lost...

A reminder and warning in a seasonal muse:

T’was the weeks before Christmas, when all through Sinclair,
Our firewall is maxed, almost beyond repair.
It seems our policies employees have ignored,
Surfing for gifts, seems to have soared.
Some surfing is business, some clearly is not,
Like trips to ebay and e-save-a-lot.

We in MIS were all snug on our floor,
When cyber Monday hit, it ripped off our door.
So many visits, too many strange sites,
“Keep out the viruses, or read the last rites!”

Gordon in his kerchief, and Jim in his cap,
Are racing the building, lap after lap.
Away to the servers, Jim flew like a flash,
“Decode all the bugs, free some more cache!”

With a little screw driver and encouraging remarks,
In through the door, runs Delbert R. Parks.
His eyes, how they twinkled, his nose a little runny,
So much weight, he lost from his tummy.

“There’s no way to fix this men,” he said in a daze,
“This is high speed gases and cosmic rays!”
“There is but one thing we can hope to do,
Beseech our employees to do what they’re supposed to.”

Now Daniel, now David,
Now Patricia, and Susan!
On Ronald and Linda,
On Donald and Karen!
All our employees no matter your name,
Stop surfing the web, this isn’t a game.
Please, please, stop, don’t fracture the 'wall,
Stop surfing the web and go to the mall!

Hooray!

I was going to blog the story of Feb. 14th, 1989, but my headache is too imposing right niow. Maybe tomorrow.

The girls went over to the across the street neighbors house today for cake and ice cream and pudding. They had a pretty good time.

It's so cold outside now rthat i had to wear layers of clothes to work - i had a t-shirt under my button up work shirt, and jeans under my slacks. Dorky? probably, but at least i was warm. er.

my wife just stopped by and fed me pepperoni slices while i type with a baby on my lap. Except for the headache, life is pretty good.

You know what is a damn good song? Testify by Rage Against the Machine.

I'm running out of rthuings to blog about, and my shoulders are getting all tense from sitting here with Irina on my lap, so I will type up the xmas story thus far and hit publish post.

If you can't make cookies, you should race cars.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was really enjoyable. Tonight we're going to watch Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace, mostly for Saren's benefit. She has seen the original trilogy, so now it's time to scar her forever with the 'new' one. Also, Steph has only seen Episodes 1 and 2 (and 4, 5, and 6, of course) so when we get #3 later this week, it will be new to her, as well.

After that, we've got several Christmasy movies lined up in our Netflix queue.
Speaking of Christmas movies - why do so many of them suck? The exceptions that I can think of are: A Christmas Story, Die Hard, Gremlins, The Nightmare Before Christmas, It's A Wonderful Life, and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Oh, and bits of Home Alone.

Every other xmas movie seems to be blah. Or maybe "Bah". Heh.

Speaking of blah xmas stories, it's time to state the story of the first xmas as told by our advent calendar thus far. I'm going to restate the first three sentences (go word count!) and the fourth sentence as well, so we can see how the story is progressing.

In the days when Herod was king of Judea, Mary was visited by an angel. The angel said, "You shall bear a son and call Him Jesus." In those days, everyone went to the city of his ancestors to be taxed. Joseph had to go to Bethlehem, the city of David.

Hmm. You know, I realize we're only four days into the story, and they're still establishing characters and whatnot, but ...I really hope this tale gets a little more exciting.

Of course, I can't really knock the tellers of this story very hard, since I haven't worked on my Nano story AT ALL since the end of November. It's still sitting in the floppy drive, at 26,899 words. Lame, P@. Lame.

Um. Damn. I had something else to say, but I've now forgotten what it was.

Xmas story sentence 3:

"In those days, everyone went to the city of his ancestors to be taxed."

Huh. Well, okay. I suppose that they probably had some sort of IRS that would come after yyou if you didn't go to that city? Because otherwise, I would think tax evasion would be a relatively simple thing to do. Just don't bother going to the city of your ancestors. [shrug]

Speaking of god type things, here's an email i got forwarded to me from my dad. Warning, since it is a forward, it may cause eye-rolling and/or heavy sighing.

Did God Create Evil?

Did God create everything that exists? Does evil exist? Did God create evil?

A University professor at a well known institution of higher learning challenged his students with this question. "Did God create everything that exists?" A student bravely replied, "Yes he did!"

"God created everything?" The professor asked.

"Yes sir, he certainly did," the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything; then God created evil. And, since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are, then we can assume God is evil."

The student became quiet and did not answer the professor's hypothetical definition. The professor, quite pleased with himself, boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "May I ask you a question, professor?"

"Of course", replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, "Professor does cold exist?"

"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?" The other students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat.

Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy.

Absolute zero (-460 F) is the total absence of heat; and all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist.

We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"

The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light.

Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact, we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color.

You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course, as I have already said. We see it everyday. It is in the daily examples of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world.

These manifestations are nothing else but evil.

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist, sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God.

God did not create evil. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart.

It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat, or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

This is post #950.

Fifty to go in the next thirty days. No problem!

Looking around the internet today, saw some weird stories. Apparently, some ex-caretakers of Koko (yes, Koko the gorilla. The one that knows some sign language) suied the Gorilla Foundation for being fired.

Why were they fired?

Well, according to their suit, they were asked to show their breasts to Koko in an attemptr to bond with him because, supposedly, Koko has a "nipple fetish". When the women refused, they were fired.

The foundation denies the allegations, but the suit has been settled out of court.

Koko was not available for comment.

Also in the news, Mother Nature must not have received the memo about hurricane season ending. Tropical Storm Epsilon (I like that name! Epsilon! It sounds like a super hero. Or something you would see as a "word" verification code.) has escalated into Hurricane Epsilon. Two days after the hurricane season officially ended.

And, apparently we (or, rather, the United States) has executed the 1,000th person under the death penalty since it was reinstated in 1977. No word was given in the article making mention of whether any prizes were awarded for having reached the "milestone".

Oh yeah. Today is the 2nd of December, so let us continue the story of the 1st xmas, shall we? We shall:

"The angel said, 'You shall bear a son and call Him Jesus.'"

Oh, Angel, you and your silly prophecies. Always telling people how their lives are going to play out. And while this particular prophecy is a good one - Yay! Childbirth! - it's interesting that he doesn't tell her the entire story: "Then, in about three decades time, your son will be publicly executed. But in another two thousand years after that, people will use his birth as an excuse to purchase merchandise from Sears. Merry Christmas!!"

Man, they should totally make that into a tv series.

In non number news, Mr. Eko is totally fucking awesome, and may very well be the best character ever to exist anywhere ever.

And on Survivor, I actually danced a jig when they did the thing they should have done 14 weeks ago.

Oh, and since it is December, which is all Xmas time, I will include a bit of the story of the first xmas, as provided by the advent calendar that was sent to us by my parents.
"In the days when Herod was king of Judea, Mary was visited by an angel."

Because I am a product of pop culture, Herod reminds me of He-Man, and "visited by an angel" makes me think that David Boreanaz is going to be part of this story. Dude. A He-Man/Angel crossover fanfic would be sweet.
Or sour. But sweet if done correctly. Which, it wouldn't be. But in my mind, it would be a kick ass story.

I feel like there is something else to blog about, but since it's nearing midnight, I suppose whatever it is can wait until tomorrow.

Happy December, everyone!

All in all, you're just another brick in the etc.

Today, Pink Floyd's album, The Wall was released back in the year 1979. Jesus Christ I'm old.

Also today, the hurricane season of 2005 comes to an end. So long, stormy weather! See you again next year!

The blogging season of 2005 does NOT come to an end, although NaNoWriMo does. Well, officially. I am, as I have stated before, going to continue to work on my "perth" story - and, no Perth has not yet even been mentioned, thanks for asking. Also, no, neither has Choset. As for my word count on this official last day of Nano - it stands right now as of 5:39PM PST, at 25,555. I keep going back and editing parts I've written, adding more, deleting stuff that sucks or that has been contradicted, blah blah blah.

So, the scene (heh. Originally wrote "scent" which is funny on multiple levels) that I started working on, like two weeks ago, is STILL where I am at in regard to progress on the story. But the stuff leading up to that scene is now much more detailed. Yay?

Also, we have money. But, as is generally the case, not for much longer. Oh well. Money is made to be spent, no? I mean, a man (and four women) need to eat.

Um. I don't really have much else to say right now, so I'll close with my one question. It's not an original question. In fact, it's been said many times, many ways. But it is a question that deserves an answer.

How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?

Half way!!

I hit 25,014 words in my story today!! Bitchin'!! Now, if I can simply duplicate the work it took me 29 days to accomplish in 24 hours, I'll be totally styling.

Oh well. At least my word count in my blog is coming along semi nicely. I mean, yeah, I'm still just barely past the half way mark, and only have one month to go, but I am feeling very confident about it. I might not hit 200,005 but I'll come damn close trying.

Also, I;ve discovered the great thing about boqs in my blog. They provide 2 days worth of posts. Granted, the way to get lots of comments seems to be to ask one question (which is what Annika did with both "Can Green Lantern fight someone with blonde hair?" and "What is friendship?" One question = lots of replies. Many (or, colloquially, a "bunch of") questions = not so many replies, but more words. Hmmm. Also, i think being Annika may have something to do with the number of responses, but I have no way of being Annika to test that theory. Although...there is this bizarre crawlway behind my desk at work....)

Anyway. Time to answer my own bunch o' questions from yesterday and possibly ask another (single??) question (s??) at the end. Whhheeeee!!

What forms of self defense do you know?
Conflict aversion 101. Dude, I'm the fuckin Master of avoidance.
Also, sarcasm and cynicism.
Oooh! And! I use my books and my poetry to protect me. Heh.
Also, I took Tae Kwon Do for about a month and a half when I was 13. Stand back, potential attackers!

?drawkcab evah elpoep emos taht gnihtemos si tahW
I like how backward spelled backward looks like drawback. That;s just cool.
As for the question itself - I'll give my controversial answer: .eussi epanS elohw ehT

"Didn't I, didn't I, didn't I see you cryin'?"
If this were on the WD my answer would be:
[crying]
Yes.

Since it isn't, my answer is thus:
I just want you to want me!! Hee. (Also, Kirk took my answer.)

And, this was Didn't I See You Crying (I Want You to Want Me) by Cheap Trick. The lyrics (go word count!) are as such:
I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'm begging you to beg me

I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me

I'll shine up the old brown shoes
Put on a brand-new shirt
I'll get home early from work
If you say that you love me

Didn't I, didn't I
Didn't I see you crying
Oh, didn't I, didn't I
Didn't I see you crying
Feeling all alone without a friend
You know you feel like dying
Oh, didn't I, didn't I
Didn't I see you crying

I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'm begging you to beg me

I'll shine up the old brown shoes
Put on a brand-new shirt
I'll get home early from work
If you say that you love me

Didn't I, didn't I
Didn't I see you crying
Oh, didn't I, didn't I
Didn't I see you crying
Feeling all alone without a friend
You know you feel like dying
Oh, didn't I, didn't I
Didn't I see you crying

Feeling all alone without a friend
You know you feel like dying
Oh, didn't I, didn't I
Didn't I see you crying

I want you to want me
I need you to need me
I'd love you to love me
I'm begging you to beg me

I want you to want me
I want you to want me
I want you to want me
I want you to want me

Out of every song EVER, where does Welcome to the Jungle by Guns n' Roses fall? Top thousand? Top million? Higher?
#470,052,318. It's tied for that, by the way.

My feet are cold, I'm hungry, I want a Pepsi really badly, and I have a slight headache. How are you feeling right now?
My tongue is burned, and my neck is sore, but I'm doing okay, really.

"Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?"
How does one fight Foo, anyway?
Also, I would hope that the Steph is.
Also, I am really really tired of that song now. (I used to like it.)
It is Best of You by the Foo Fighters.
Lyrics!
I've got another confession to make, I'm your fool
Everyone's got their chains to break, holding you
Were you born to resist, or be abused?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Are you gone and on to someone new?
I needed somewhere to hang my head, without your noose
You gave me something that I didn't have, but had no use
I was too weak to give in, too strong to lose
My heart is under arrest again, but I break loose
My head is giving me life or death, but I can't choose
I'll swear I'll never give in, I'll refuse
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith? It's real
The pain you feel?
Your trust?
You must confess.
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith? Its real.
The pain you feel?
The life? The love, you died to hear?
The hope that stops the broken hearts?
Your trust?
You must confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
I've got another confession my friend, I'm no fool
I'm getting tired of starting again, somewhere new
Were you born to resist, or be abused?
I swear I'll never give in, I'll refuse
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith? It's real.
The pain you feel?
Your trust?
You must confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?

Go find a radio, turn it on. What song - or commercial, or whatever - is playing?
You know, I had to reword this to make it in the form of a question. Originally it was "Tell me what song - or commercial, or whatever- is playing." But I switched it up so I would not get a deluge (okay, two) answers of "That's not a question." [/history]

*turns on radio onto 100.5, Jack FM*
It's "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" by... um, whoever sings "Fooled Around and Fell in Love" (yes, I'm too lazy to google it up.) Of course, in the time that it took me to write that all, the song ended, and now it's an AC/DC song (You Shook Me All Night Long) Ugh. *turns off radio in disgust*

What book would make a kick ass movie? What movie would be better as a book?
Practically any Robert J. Sawyer book adapted into film would get me into the theater.
I'd bet The Matrix trilogy would have made for an interesting (and more comprehensible) set of (comic??) books.

Computers are stupid, aren't they?
"That date is in the past."
I rest my case, your honor.

"Well do you, do you, do you wanna, do you wanna go where I'd never let you before?"
Mmmmm. Forbidden doughnut.
This is the (unfortunately) highly infectious Do You Want To by Franz Ferdinand.
(also, did anyone catch the theme with the lyrics this time?)
Speaking of lyrics, here they be!

When I woke up tonight I said I'm
Going to make somebody love me
I'm going to make somebody love me
Now I know
Now I know
Now I know
That it's you
You're lucky lucky you're so lucky
Well do you
Do you
Do you want to
Want to go where I'd never let you before
Well do you
Do you
Do you want to
Want a go of what I'd never let you before
Well he's a friend and he's so proud of you
He's a friend and I knew him before you
He's a friend and we're so proud of you
He's a friend and I blew him before you
Here we are at the Transmission party
I love your friends - they're all so arty

What do you think our car's mileage will be at the end of the year? (as of 2pm PST on 11/28/05, it is at 138695.)
141,071.

What do you think my word count (in my blog) will be at the end of the year?
200,004. Hee.

and finally...

Why don't you ask a question now?
Well, okay then. I think I will. You know, since I said that I would ask my one question at the end of this. So here it is:

Why is it easier to destroy than to create?
And isn't destruction actually a form of creation?

Okay, so it was two questions instead of one. But still.

rhythm

So. I totally forgot my disk with my story on it at home. Which is the excuse I'm going with for why I'm not writing more right now. I mean, dude, I could totally write some of my story, email it to myself, and then add it onto the disk when I get home. But for now, I'm working on increasing my word count on my blog.
Or, put another way:

Cheaters always prosper.

So. I figured since I don't really have anything to say right now, I'd conjure up another random boq (you know, since the last one I did went over so well).
As always, either answer it in my comment section or, better yet, copy and paste it on your own blog, and in the comment area just tell me that you've answered it. [up]

Ta da!  Now, maybe once I get done doing work work, I'll work on my story. (Geez. Could I work the word work in there a few more times?)

~~

I was planning on making this a stream of consciousness type of entry, and I will, but I think that it will be ...not as long as I had hoped, since my stream of consciousness seems to have hit a dam. heh. Dam of consciousness. I kinda like that term. Unfortunately, I don't like HAVING writer's block. I have gotten to 24,127 words in my story, which is 24,127 more words than I had a month ago, so yay for that. I keep getting hung up with wanting it to be "real". I want to do more research to ensure that I get the facts straight, which is just, I have realized, a stalling tactic. Although I do enjoy learning the facts. But, seriously, do I need to know exactly how Global Positioning Systems work when I'm going to be writing a story that involves robotic spiders from another universe?

No, not really.

Although, if someone can tell me if a person would be able to track something that had a GPS tracking chip (is that how it's even done? Through microchips that are tracked by satellites?) that doesn't belong to them, that would be somewhat beneficial. Otherwise, I'll simply take that fictional liberty and say that it can be done. Because it works in my story. So, yeah.

There are plenty of other times I've needed to just say "Well, this might not be how it is in the real world, but it's going to be this way for the sake of narrative." Like i said, I've recently realized that it was a way to stall for time, so hopefully I'll cut back on doing that. (Or try to. Because I am curious whether a car falling 150 feet would explode or not. Going on what I've seen in television and movies, the answer appears to be "sometimes". Additionally, would someone inside said vehicle be able to survive if it did NOT explode?.... and, yeah, I'll just have what works best for my story be what happens, "reality" and "physics" be damned.)

In non nano news (heh) - you know the whole thing where people put the coins on the eyes of the dead so they could pay Charon to cross the River Styx? Well... since we don't do that anymore, how are people getting across? I figured maybe they were using their credit cards, but 1) people aren't generally buried with their MasterCards (are they?) and 2) once you're dead, I think they tend to cancel those types of things, so I doubt that the Boatman of the Dead is really accepting of them.
Heh. Imagine that commercial:
Funeral: $5000
Casket: $2500
Having money to cross the River Styx: Priceless

Hee.

I can't believe that I have to go back to work tomorrow. The past four days went by really quickly. I mean, I enjoyed them, and wasn't thinking about work while I was off, but it's just ...man, they're gone already. Bummer.

I was going to incorporate pictures - sometimes prevalent to what I was talking about, sometimes just random - in my blog entry (entries? Make it a gimmick?) but I just don't want to go through the work of finding stuff online, saving it to the computer and uploading it through blogger. If I could just not worry about the whole 'stealing bandwidth' issue it would be much easier. Bah. Ownership.

I found five bucks today. That was a nice surprise. Wish I could repeat that little magic trick, but I do believe that we are now officially out of cash until payday.

It's weird, the official start of winter is still several weeks away, but it is COLD outside now. I wonder when (if?) the dates of the seasons starting will ever be changed to reflect the fact that the weather no longer really matches the calendar.

ANd now it has been eight years, so I'm done typing things up.

Besides, there's a crime about to be committed in this quiet neighborhood, so I need to go make sure everyone is safe.

It must be a Saturday

Because I am finding myself having nothing to say.

Flew a kite today. That was enjoyable.

We're about an hour and a half into the movie Troy which is turning out to be better than I had expected. Yay for low expectations!

Speaking of low (or lowering) expectations, I still plan on finishing my nanovel, but there is no way in hell that I will reach 50,000 words in the next four days. However. I am going to finish the story, no matter how long it takes. It might take two months, it might take six, but I will finish the first damn draft of that story, and it will be ...well, first drafty. But it will be done which is a major accomplishment, actually. And when I finish it, I might post it here, or somewhere online, but I have not yet decided.

Word count time!

Thursday, November 24, 2005

There is no "D". But you have a free spin.

Yes, we are watching Wheel of Fortune right now. Or, rather, it's on. The older girls are running around the house, the youngest is having nee-nee, and I am blogging.

And, hey! It was "Charleston, South Carolina", which is where I was born. I think. (Yes, I don't know my own hometown. It's either Charleston or Conway. Or Myrtle Beach.)

ANyway.

TOday was the day of Thanks, and it was pretty good. The turkey and mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes and corn and green beans and rolls and sparkling apple cider and cranberry sauce was awesomely good.

We watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the Rockettes at the beginning gave me goosebumps. It was totally like a scene from 1945.

Steph's oldest brother came by for a little while, before the food was finished cooking, and played with the girls for a spell.

I helped Irina get to sleep by speaking to her in parseltongue. She totally loves Voldemort.

I still need to purchase a Pepsi so that I remain healthy - Steph is sick already. [frown]

That's about all, I guess. I did no work on my story, because ...I don't know why. There is less than one week to go, and I have over half to go still. Oy. Maybe I'll work on it tonight during Finding Nemo. Maybe.

Anyway, I hope that everyone had a glorious 4th Thursday of November... OH! I rememeber what I was going to blog about!
Today in history!

This was the day in 1963 that Jack Ruby shot Lee Harvey Oswald (on live television!!), thus forever giving conspiracy theorists wet dreams. (hee.)

Also, in 1971 on this day, D. B. Cooper (who actually only went by the name Dan Cooper, but a media mix up resulted in D. B. sticking. Funny how often things like that work)... um. Oh. RIght. D. B. Cooper got away with his skyjacking. Only 200,000 dollars. Man. That doesn't seem like a lot of money. Of course, it was the 70s, so maybe it was more then. But I think if you're going to risk prison and/or death, that you should ask for a bit more cash in return. But then, maybe he wasn't a greedy guy.

And in some other century on this date, Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species was first published. It sold out on the first day. Just like Harry Potter!

I do love Wikipedia. It provideth the mucho info.

So, now that I've rambled about everything, I'll close up. And say that I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing Thanksgiving Day.

Wheeee! kend.

Heee! I am amusing.

Four days off! And I only went to work today for 5 hours. And I'm at 23,176, and I didn't even add anything new to the story - the additional five hundredish words all came from adding onto the prolouge! It's like I'm succeeding and failing at the same time!

New Lost tonight!

Four days off!!

I've got Land of the Dead (yes, we're still trying to finish up the Halloween zombie marathon from Netflix. This completes it, except for Resident Evil one and 2.) to watch.

And now I'll answer yesterday's boq!

FOUR DAYS OFF!!!!

"Why do they always send the poor?"
Three answers for this one.
1) There are so damn many!
2) What are they going to do - send the rich? Not bloody likely.
3) Why do the poor always go? [eyebrow]
"BYOB" by System of a Down
Lyrics are thusly:

Why do they always send the poor?

Barbarisms by Barbara
With pointed heels
Victorious victorious kneel
For brand new spankin' deals

Marching forward hypocritic and hypnotic computers
You depend on our protection
Yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth
La la la la la la la la la oh oh

Everybody's going to the party have a real good time
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine

Kneeling roses disappearing into moses' dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox stealing our inventions
Hangers sitting dripped in oil crying freedom
Handed to obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth
La la la la la la la la la oh oh

Everybody's going to the party have a real good time
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine

Everybody's going to the party have a real good time
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine

Blast off, it's party time, and we don't live in a fascist nation.
Blast off, it's party time, and where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?

Kneeling roses disappearing into moses' dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox stealing our inventions
Hangers sitting dripped in oil crying freedom
Handed to obsoletion,
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth
La la la la la la la la la oh oh

Everybody's going to the party have a real good time
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine

Everybody's going to the party have a real good time
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sun...

Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
They always send the poor
They always send the poor

Yay! It's an incredibly infectious song. And it helps me with my word count. And it is anti-Dumbya, so I think I approve.

Does blood money make a difference? For example - someone pays you, say, 1000 dollars for something you own. Does it matter who the money came from? If it's from mafia hitmen does it make it less acceptable than if it came from, say, a family member or a friend?
Money spends. If you're going to be all self-righteous about where it comes from, you're going to end up starving. (ha ha ha) Seriously, all money comes from the government, and you know how wonderful they are, so I don't think you can think too hard about where you're getting your cash from, ya know?

Torches and pitchforks really are underused nowadays. I know that's not a question.
That isn't a question, but I should have made it one. The question would be - WHY are they so underused? I mean, Bush and co should have been lynched years ago...

What's going on in the news today? It's been a slow month, hasn't it?
Fucking News.
Um. When I watched today twas all about the traveling of Americans and airports and the President giving a turkey the Presidental pardon. Slow month indeed.

Whatchya reading? (always a good standby question)
The Zomibe Survival Guide by Max Brooks.

Is the sky falling?
Nah, the ground is just rushing upwards.

What shape is the universe? (i think I've asked this before.)
We all live in a yellow submarine.
Also, it's cell shaped.

If you could give a lie detector test to anyone in the world, who would it be?
Heee! I am amusing.
Oh, let's say, one of those dimwits from the Maury Povich show. "The lie detector test determined ....THAT was a lie!"
Then I'd run off the stage in tears.
Classic.

Should I post my story here? Do you want to read it? Do you think I'll finish it?
Undecided.
Well, I don't really have a choice.
..Undecided. But leaning toward yes.

and finally...

What's something that has made you laugh recently?
"Turkey milk."

Survey says

Holy whatever, I am so tired of people.

You know what, I was going to provide the work related rant, but it's just not even worth the time and energy that it would take. Maybe I'll change my mind later.

Let's see - what else is going on?

I'm avoiding my story.
I have a headache, even though this is a short work week, and really, it hasn't been all that stressful of a day... bah. Winter is just bah.
I finished One Door Away From Heaven, and I do believe I'm done with my Koontz Kick. At least for a while. Highly disappointing ending, I must say. Koontz needs to be sent the Stephen King memo: Kill your characters. Cause them pain, and remember that not everything ends happily in life. Also, lay off the dogs, dude. AND - psychology? Not really the devil you make it out to be. Lastly, no more proselytizing. It's great that you're a Christian and all, but ...whatever. I guess it doesn't matter since I wont' be reading any more of his books for a while anyway, right?

What else?

When I originally thought about blogging, I thought about making a list of movies that I hated, since Kirk did that recently on his blog. But now that I'm here, actually doing that feels like too much work. And getting worked up over movies - most of which are crap anyway - just seems... eh.

Steph and Harper and Irina are going to a Thanksgiving party today. With banana bread. I'm very jealous. Right about now i'd give practically anything to be somewhere other than work. It's not like there's even anything for me to be DOING. But I ...ohh! Email!

Bah. It was nothing good. A revision to the OBIN guidelines. Apparently, now as long as the "fucker" part of "motherfucker" and the "hole" of "asshole" are edited out, we're good to go with those words. Yippie ki ay, mother!

I'm still waiting on a phone call or an email back from the Armenians. No, seriously. We're running some Armenian Telethon (heh. I originally typed Telethong) on Thanksgiving Day. I need a trouble number and the audio subcarrier information given to me. Thus far, no return call. No return email. Okay, then.

It's 12:22 as I type this, and I should be eating lunch, but I'm avoiding the lunch room because I don't like eating in there during the noon hour anymore. Too many people, which means talking. And I'm tired of talking to people. Oooh! Email!
BAH!! Dollar modification. Shut up, people!

Speaking of talking, though, Tina (my ex boss) called me yesterday. She's up in Oregon now, and her family seems to be doing well. Her cat has disappeared, though. That was sort of a bummer, but she's holding out hope that he'll return. He's gone missing before, but then, that was back in Vegas.
She gave me her new email address and I gave her mine, and she said that she'd be back in Vegas during December to visit, so there ya go. Hey, another email, but I'm not even going to be excited this time, because I know that'll just disappoint.

And, yeah, I'm doing that to boost my word count. Got a problem with that? [glares] [gets tired of glaring] [wants to go to sleep] [types more instead]

It was bitterly cold this morning. My ears were all numb when the bus finally arrived. It wasn't freezing outside, but I'd say that it was in the low 40s. Even though our house is not properly insulated, and it is often pretty cold inside, being out there made me appreciate how warm it truly is in there.
Every morning when i take the bus to work, I walk past these areas where homeless people sleep. It's disconcerting, for a minute or two before I push it out of my head, to see blankets and cardboard beds and empty alcohol bottles and garbage and discarded clothing all around there, especially as it is getting so cold.
Oh well. What are you going to do, starve? Ha ha ha.

Steph had this neat idea the other day. That couples should be allowed to marry each other. Like legally have a four-person household, where the responsibilities are all split. That way, everyone could work part time, and there would always be someone there to watch the children. I don't know if Steph's idea involved the swapping of mates. The idea, though (not the mate swapping, just the concept of having another couple that you are legally attached to and who would help out with all matters familial)  was one that was very intriguing. It would be like a baby step toward the retribalization of  people. Sort of. Anyway, seeing how people get uptight at the thought of anything other than man-woman marriage, I don't see it happening anytime soon, but still a neat idea. If I were working on my story, I might even try to find a way to incorporate it somehow.

Hold on.

Back. A short walk downstairs - and back again (obviously) - did me a little bit of good. I'm still suffering from a headache, and still Grumpelstiltskin, but it was good to get up from my desk and move around.

I think I will go eat, lunch crowd be damned, and see if that helps any.

And then he just sat at his desk for at least two more minutes, doing nothing. Wow. I am really tired or really ...something. Okay. Seriously this time, I am going to go get some food in my belly. Hopefully when I get back the Armenians will have called, although I'm not holding my breath. I'm much more likely to get a Family Feud complainer. [rolleyes] (And, yeah, okay, I'll tell the Family Feud story..ies when I get back.)

Back.

Feeling slightly better, too. But. Hold on.

Still have a headache. I think it's a caffeine (or, rather, a lack of) headache. I bet if I had a Pepsi i'd feel better. Pepsi - cures what ails ya.

Anyway. The Family Feud stories.

Yesterday during the 4pm episode of Family Feud, there was a problem with the automation. (Let's automate the television station. That way, nothing could possiblay go wrong!) So, the op on duty, trying to get the problem under control, but not wanting to have dead air while doing so ("Why we in black?"), ran some of the commercial breaks from Family Feud. Twice. Meanwhile, time marches on, and 4:30 rolled around, so the op decided, well, Family Feud at 4:00 is pretty much a wash (he was still unable to sort out the automation error - when the machines go bad, they REALLY go bad), so I better start my next program.
I agree with that call.
However. For those watching at home, they never got to see what happened in the final 6 minutes of the show. Did the family win $20,000? Did they only win 400 dollars? We'll never know!!
Most people would just shrug it off. Maybe be mildly irritated. But every once in a while there's a person out there who has to bitch about it.

And so, at 4:35 yesterday, I got a call transfered to me asking if we were having a problem with Family Feud. Since our station is set up in a really un-user friendly way and I don't have a television in front of me (and, even more baffling - neither does the receptionist), I said I didn't know, but I could go check.
So I put Irate Family Guy on hold, run downstairs, run across the parking lot, enter the other building, run down the hall, and go into Master Control, where I find the scoop. The op on duty was trying to recover still and wasn't too keen on me standing over his shoulder.
Having the answer I needed, I ran back to my phone, and slightly out of breath, took Irate Family Feud Guy off hold.
Explaining to him that we had equipment failure and that I was sorry, he was still pissed off at me. "So I wasted twenty minutes of my time watching a show I'm never going to see the ending of?"
"Well, yeah, basically. Newsflash. Television = waste of time."

I, of course, didn't say that - directly. But dude. What else was I going to say? We had a machine failure, we couldn't get the show to run, it's not going to be on again for several weeks, I'm sorry. Move. On.

Eventually he realized that I could not turn back the hands of time (I'm no Superman) and that bitching about it to me was not going to do any good and he hung up.

I was told by our receptionist this morning that he called again, yelling at her about how we 'always mess up the 4pm Family Feud'. Always?
And, dude. It was 24 hours ago. Let. It. Go.

Hopefully tonight we have it air with no problems. But I may have to make sure I leave before 4pm just to be on the safe side.

Then. Got another phone call today from a viewer - another male, older guy, but not the same Irate Family Feud Guy I spoke to yesterday - who was pissed as HELL that we would air Family Feud calling George Bush a liar.

Um. Care to explain, Señor Psychopath?

He informed me that the question was "If you could give a lie detector test to anyone in the world, who would it be?" and the number one answer was "George Bush", which insinuated (he claimed) that George Bush was a liar.
When I tried to say that I didn't think that is what they meant, he jumped down my throat. "Don't tell me what I didn't see! That sure as hell is what they meant. And I don't appreciate it."
Oooohkay, then.
Trying a different route, I tried to shift the 'blame' to the audience members that were polled. Since it's the audience that they ask the questions to, it isn't the station's fault that they want to submit Dubya to a lie detector test.
"Well that just shows the democratic/liberal sway that's going through this country. I don't agree with it," Irate Family Feud Guy 2 says.
Umm.
He continued on, telling me that even though his wife likes "that stupid show", they're never going to watch it again if that's the kind of nonsense they're going to air on it. And he was going to email everyone - the RJ, Family Feud, maybe George Bush himself - to let them know that he isn't a liar and he doesn't appreciate people insinuating that he is.

Yeah. Do you see now why I'm sick of people?

In other work related news, because work is all freaking encompassing lately, I still haven't heard back from the Armenians. However. They sent us a backup tape. That is only one hour long. And not in English.
It's going to be a long Thanksgiving, I have a feeling.

Finally, I think I will now make a random boq. You can either answer here in my comments, or cut and paste into your own blog. Or both. Or neither. The choice is yours!

<b>"Why do they always send the poor?"</b>

<b>Does blood money make a difference? For example - someone pays you, say, 1000 dollars for something you own. Does it matter who the money came from? If it's from mafia hitmen does it make it less acceptable than if it came from, say, a family member or a friend?</b>

<b>Torches and pitchforks really are underused nowadays. I know that's not a question.</b>

<b>What's going on in the news today? It's been a slow month, hasn't it?</b>

<b>Whatchya reading? (always a good standby question)</b>

<b>Is the sky falling?</b>

<b>What shape is the universe? (i think I've asked this before.)</b>

<b>If you could give a lie detector test to anyone in the world, who would it be?</b>

<b>Should I post my story here? Do you want to read it? Do you think I'll finish it?</b>

and finally...

<b>What's something that has made you laugh recently?</b>

Meh. A kinda weak bunch of questions (and one non-question), but it really does feel like the good ones have all been asked.

I guess I'll send this off now. Woo and hoo.

Do you like ba-na-na bread? Are you a big mon-key?

One of these days I'll have to make a decent sized blog entry.

Not today, obviously. "Unnnnnnnnnnnnnn!" says Irina.

My nanovel, by the way, is now around 22,500. Only 10,000 behind schedule!

Oh, and the Posiedon remake last night was boring, pointless, and excrutiatingly painful to watch. See also: Steve Guttenberg.

In conclusion, "Unnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!"

Sunday, November 20, 2005

Ahh, Sweeps.

Watching the remake of The Posiedon Adventure. Because it was made in the 21st century, it's got terrorists! Yay! Terrorists win!

It also has Steve Guttenberg! Yay! The terrorists win!!

Nothing much else to say right now.

Shut Down

Shuts Down Your Computer

That would be nice for a brain. Have a Shut Down button, so you could just ...shut down for a while.

I guess ultimately there IS one, but there isn't a reboot option. Um. Unless the Buddhists are right.

All I know is that I have not written in my story today and I have a killerr fucking headache right now.
