I still need to respond to 99% of these in my inbox...

No.
Not really anything I can say to that, now is there?

"Why can't I think of my own questions?"
I can, they just all suck.

What's your absolute favourite thing about rafs?
Mostly that they remind me of Jess. Yay RL/WWW connections!!

Who is your WD hero? And why?
Jamie Marie. The amount of energy and talent that she puts into that place astound me. I don't know how she's managed to stay sane (and keep the site going) for so long. I would've quit (or kicked everyone off) ages ago. And numerous times. She's very inspirational.

Have you ever played leapfrog with a unicorn?
Nope. Should I have?

If you don't aim to please, where do you aim? Head? Kneecaps? Spine?
I just fire blindly, and hope that I hit something. It works, nine times out of ten.

The Sun: alien space-heater, or mass of incanescent gas?
Yes.
Also - it's a bad newspaper. (answer "borrowed" from tkf)

What's the one odd thing you have to take with you when you travel? (Meaning not clothes or shampoo or any of that..something obscure)
Myself. (What? I have to take it with me...)

Which is the best of the recent superhero movies?
Not exactly recent, but with 1982's Superfuzz, superhero movies reached their pinacle.

What do you wish was on the Internet?
A site called, "If you like...". In it, you could compare things you like to discover other things that are similar that you would also enjoy. So if you were searching for a type of television show that you would appreciate it would say: "If you like Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, you might also like: um...whatever else is out there like Buffy" (I don't know what it would say, that's why I wish the site was on the Internet!!)

What is your second favorite website?
Well, I opened my "favorites", and the second one on there was: this. (I don't know that that's really my 2nd favorite site, but it's as good an answer as any)

Now that we are about half way through the year, think back over the last six months. What was the best thing to happen to you? What was the worst? Etc, etc.
We're halfway through the year?!?! Good christ!
[/avoiding answering the question]

Hi, my name is P@ and I can't even think up questions for my own PMQ. How pathetic is that? No really, on a scale of one to ten, how pathetic is it?

I mean, P@ is cool, huh? On a scale of one to ten, how cool?

The average ending up being: 7.3375
I think that sounds about right.

June is the first month of summer. What are your feelings on "summer"?
Fuck, it's hot.

Have you ever killed an animal? (directly - not eaten a pre-wrapped bit o' meat).
Yes.

"What should imissoz buy her boyfriend for his birthday?"
Bally said: I have no idea. Have you promised to send her the answers to this question, or something?[crazy2]
So, yes. Here's what I got sent to me as suggestions. Hope you're paying attention, imissoz. [wink]

  • PIE Seriously. Why aren't there more questions about pie???? I know it was kind of a 'create your own PMQ' this month and I ruined it by not talking about pie. (many things are ruined this way- man, that meeting sucked, there should have been pie! What was that preacher going on about in church? He should have been talking about pie! How many times do I have to tell you, I am not talking about this! <-- that was a fight I used to have with an ex-boyfriend. We never talked about pie. You see where that got him) So anyway! Make a question about pie next month! Phuuulllease! For instance: How many pieces of pie have you ever eaten at once? What is your favorite kind of pie? If you were going to send talula a pie, what kind and in what diameter? Pizza pie- does it really deserved to be called pie- your thoughts? etc, etc, really, it's an endless topic of discussion

  • Something he likes, wants, and/or needs. (Hey, I don't know the guy...what kind of answer were you expecting?)

  • if they've been together 6 months or less - then something small. I'm a big fan of 'gift bags' - that is - a whole bunch of little things in a fun bag!

  • underpants

  • a car

  • a gamecube

  • a card

  • a bow-flex

  • a rubber chicken, a nine iron, a wet herring, and a manual for a DVD player

  • a foosball table

  • a new sword

  • 10,000 maniacs

    not the band, the maniacs

  • chocolate!!

  • a werewolf costume

    and

  • a good book

    Hope that helps!

"Does anyone know if you can get The Pillow Book on DVD for Region 4?"
    The Shadow Knows!!

"When is reality TV gonna end?"
Is that still around? Reality, I mean. Dude, I thought that came to an end years ago.

    So, how about those Dolphins/Broncos?
Well, when we saw the Dolphins yesterday, they didn't seem to have any sort of horse genes incorporated...

    and finally...

Whose hairbrush would you rather borrow: Elvis' or James Dean's?
Borrow? Yeah, like I'm gonna give it back to them. Pfft. They're dead!
Oh, and just because nobody said him, I pick Elvis.
Thank you. Thank you very much.

Much closer to what I want. Yay!

We went to the Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage today. Dolphins are cool. I'm very tired and don't have much to say. My day off went by too quickly.

I'm nowhere near done working on the template change (in fact, I've barely scratched the surface), but I've decided to make my blog "known" to the world once more. There's a link in my (rather empty) profile at the WD, and I'll be making this a Public Blog again on blogger, so there's a chance that when I update, it'll show up on the "last updated" screen. I'm also giving permission to anyone reading this to link to the blog, if they so desire.

Let's see - what should I blog about?

I finished reading Ishmael today. Certainly an interesting book. It's amazing how strong the voice of Mother Culture is. (Heee. "Mother Culture" sounds like something out of an edited for tv movie. Maybe from Die Hard 5: Die Hardester!. "Yippie-Ki-ay, Mother Culture!")
Joking aside, I found myself agreeing with a lot of what Ishmael (the character) had to say, but then instantly finding myself saying, "But, no, it has to be this way." [sigh] People.

We went to the library today, and we checked out another Daniel Quinn book. (The Story of B) I'm sure Stephanie's already started reading it. [grin]
I also checked out Sims, a sci-fi book set in the not-too-distant future in which a corporation alters the genes of chimpanzees to create a sub-human slave class. I've not yet begun it, but I'll keep you all informed.
It seems that since we're in rerun season, the amount of reading I'm doing has increased. Yay for that. I just wish there were more people to discuss books with. I saw that Jess had read Otherland and that made me very happy. I keep meaning to fire off a PM to her about that. Speaking of books and the WD, I've wanted to, for a long time, create a "book club". Just never have due to laziness (and I'm not sure how it would work, exactly.) Maybe I'll do that this summer. (Most likely not. [wink])

In other news, I've nearly complete the "listen to all of our tapes while driving" mission that I started back in February. Funny thing about that - I discovered that I really like Morphine, Sebadoh, and Robyn Hitchcock. All of which I had previously dismissed. I was a music snob back in the day. [doh2]

OH! Jupe - gilibeanz made a boq about hair. I answered it already, and mentioned the P@fro. Figured you'd want to take a look at that. [smile]

Okay. I'm gonna mess around with the template a bit. So if things look odd, at least I have an excuse.
Lots to say today, hopefully I get to it all. I'd hate to not have my brain purged completely. [appropriate icon]

Woke up way too late to accomplish anything before having to go to work. Again. This makes 3 days running. Woo!

Went to work, and I read some more of Ishmael. It's not the world's best-written book, but I like it a lot, anyway. It's given me plenty to mull over, and while I won't get into it all now, I'll simply summarize with this. Fuck god, and fuck farmers.

At work, Matt and Scott were playing with Homestarrunner.com. We're all very busy down there. [rolleyes]
I saw the Halloween movie, which I'd never seen before, and it was very funny.

Around 6:20, I called the Jury Duty number, and discovered that I don't have to go down there tomorrow, and that completes my being called. [shrug] I still get paid for the one day I did go down, so sometime in the next ten days or so I'll go collect my 7 bucks. Yay seven bucks!!
I'm a little disappointed that I didn't get "chosen", but what can I do? Go down and demand to be inconvienenced? Heh. Anywhat, I'm off the hook for at least two more years, which means that I will never be selected for Jury Duty in Nevada, since we'll be moving next June. Perhaps the Oregon justice system will be more rewarding.

Also at work, I watched Restless which was all edited wrong. [grrr] They put a commercial break in the middle of Xander's dream. Whuh?
Other than smiling at some of the funny lines and scenes, Restless seemed kinda...not as nifty. Maybe my mind was just elsewhere. I dunno. It seemed like they were hinting at much more (or perhaps my flights of fanficy were searching for more?) than what wound up being shown during the series. [shrug] I'm down to the final four, I think. They are The Body, Forever, Never Kill a Boy on the First Date and Once More, With Feeling.

At 8:30, I let Mike go home early. I believe my words were something to the effect of, "I've got things covered."

At about 9:03, everything went to hell.

[begin long boring work related story. Feel free to skip ahead.]

Yolonda was working in KFBT (ironically, her last day before a two week vacation), when she came over and asked if Mike was here. I told her that he wasn't feeling good (not true. He was actually going to a concert. The "not feeling well" story was conconcted by us both as a cover for him in case anyone asked. [sigh]) and that I let him leave early.
    "Why? What's wrong?"
She told me that her board was flashing and she couldn't get anything to come up on the preset screen.
Not liking the sounds of this, I followed her into KFBT's control room to take a look.
She was in the midst of a paid program, which meant that she didn't really need to switch for another 20 minutes. Sure enough, her board had the program button and the preset button flashing, and attempting to select anything for the preset resulted in nothing happening.
Testing all aspects of the board, she hit the transition button - hoping, I guess, to see if it even worked, and then would switch back into the program. The board did switch to the preset (which was just dead air), but did not switch back to the program. Oops.
It was at this time that we called Greg (the chief engineer).
To cut a very long story a little bit shorter, Greg talked me through some functions to restore power to the board (basically, turning off the power source, waiting, and turning it back on). That didn't work. He told me he was going to call Bryan (the main engineer for KFBT) and have him call me back.
Meanwhile, KFBT was broadcasting dead air.
Around 9:15, we realized that we were stuck on what had been the last thing Yo had switched to (the commercial server) and that that could still be on the air. In a bout of brilliance, I decided that I would dub the segments of her next program onto tape, and load them into the commercial server, so that even though the 9pm paid program was shot, at least the 9:30 program could air (along with all of it's spots). Her 9:30 show was supposed to be MASH. I took the tape, went into KVWB's control room and got out a blank tape to transfer the segments onto. And then discovered that I couldn't. It seems that the power source for KFBT's switcher is also connected to the tunnel that allows dubbing. Doh.
At about 9:26, Bryan called, and had me do the same thing that Greg was doing (the power down, power back up trick). But!! This worked. Because there were two power sources to switch off. Doh. Again.
KFBT was back on the air at 9:30, just in time for MASH to air.

    Yay.

Except. The board didn't stay operational. It worked for one transition, then "froze" again. At that time, I knew the two power source trick, and we did that, resulting in dead air for one minute. (As opposed to the nearly 30 minutes prior.) After that, KFBT's board was up and running and stayed good until 10:40.
At 10:45, I called Bryan back, and told him that the board was obviously dying, and that the CPR-method was not working. Or, rather, that it was working, but only for a limited time. And that I doubted the overnight crew wanted to spend all night turning off the power and turning it back on in order to stay on the air. He said to pass the "trick" along to the guys coming in at 11pm, and that he'd be down there "sometime tonight". (Cuz, you know, maintaining on-air product isn't a priority or anything)
I showed the trick to the overnighters, who didn't seem too happy to be inheriting the shitstorm I'd left them with. But the trick, as I said, was losing it's effectiveness each time it was done, and by 11pm, we were back in black. (Heh.)
I stuck around, trying to get KFBT into some reasonable state of normalcy. Bryan was called one more time, and he was en route by the time I left at 11:20.
It was semi-amusing (in the not really amusing way) that Yo and I were stressing out, trying to get back on the air, while the engineers were taking a very laissez-faire attitude toward the whole thing. I'm sure there's a message there, but I ain't gonna figure it out right now.
    [/end boring work related story]

Once I got home, I saw that starshine had sent Saren and Harper some porcelian fairies!! Woohoo! The girls were very excited about them, and I must say that it was a very nice surprise, and a much better way to end the day. [up] Thank you, Cindy.

It's now 1:12 in the morning, and we're going to attempt to wake up early again tomorrow, so um...

If you ever feel that your life is incomplete, that there is some sort of void in your existence, that you've got a hole that needs filling, it's because your life is incomplete. There is a void in your existence. And you do have a hole that needs filling.

    The solution?

You need to get Jesus Christ into your life.

Jesus is the salvation to all of life's problems. Through Jesus all things are possible. Christ will carry you through the rough patches of the day-to-day drudgery.

Of course, by "Jesus Christ" I really mean "material goods".

    Sunday, June 08, 2003

When I left work today, it kinda occurred to me that nobody that works at the station likes being there. Nobody really likes anyone else there (well, that might be a slight exaggeration, but just slightly), and I think that for the majority of us, we're simply there because of force of habit. And money.
We get no real satisfaction from earning the station money (because, let's face it, that's what we're really doing. For each day that I get paid my 80 some-odd dollars, I'm sure the station is earning at least 8000) and yet we do it, day in and day out.

I was thinking earler that it might just be better to pack up the family and move to a rain forest, ala The Mosquito Coast. Of course, we won't do that, because we're far too dependant upon modern life. I love the internet. And television. And having a roof over my head. And eating Del Taco. And Pepsi (can't forget about the Nectar of the Gods). I hate driving (scratch that. I hate driving with 300,000 other people. Actually, I hate driving with even 30 other people on the road. I have issues), but I would hate to give up the car, and the tape deck, and the air conditioned air.
But the Mosquito Coast lifestyle does have it's appeal. Roughing it. Living life amongst nature. Actually learning something worthwhile. Getting my hands dirty, and accomplishing something. It would be great.

The downside, at least in the book, was that a) the father was a complete and utter lunatic. And b) despite taking himself (and his family) out of the city, he couldn't take the city out of himself. If that makes sense. It's been a while since I've read the book (and it is a really good book), but from what I recall, it seems that Father's plan was flawed in that he wanted to rebuild civilization. Civilization is flawed. If he had just tried to get away, and live the "simple" life, things would've been better.

Bah. I don't know what I'm talking about.

I'm down to the final 7 Buffys at work. I should wrap up on or near my birthday. Yay?

    Saturday, June 07, 2003

    Again with the headache. Wonderful.

Bah. I have nothing to say. I meant to post the other day, but there simply aren't enough hours. Apparently.

I have just gotten back from the WD for the first time in several days (still haven't responded to the PMQ responses, like I need to) and I wanted to throw in my two cents on the whole Spike/Angel thing. (He said, as though anyone cared) I think Spike will be revived by accident. A spell will be done, and as a side-effect, completely unintentional, Spike will come back.
    I say this, because
    a) it provides plenty of angst for Spike's character
    b) it doesn't "sully his sacrifice" (or however Joss is wording it)
    and
    c) bringing Spike back from the dead would be an accident, no matter how they do it.

Also - I think that maybe the vampire that will Shanshu might not be either Spike or Angel. Maybe it'll be Harmony. That would be nice.

I watched I Was Made To Love You the other day, and when Xander said his "I miss Oz." line, it made me giggle uncontrollably. I'm a dork.

I finished Otherland: City of Golden Shadow today. I'm now going to read Ishmael because Steph said it was an interesting read, and it looks like something I'll enjoy. It's been a while since we've both read the same book to discuss. That's mostly because I don't read the stuff I should.

OH!! Bally's birthday was the other day!! He shares a birthday with Choset! Woo!! (Um...I suppose sharing a birthday with the Destroyer of the Universe is cause for celebration. [wink])
My birthday is next Saturday. I'll be working. Yee-haw.

    I need water.

    Erm. What else?

There's work to be done, but I really don't want to do any of it. Truth be told, I'd much rather be at home. Mowing the lawn. Or sleeping.

    Tuesday, June 03, 2003

    Mmm. Headache.

I wanted to answer this yesterday, but I decided to "compress the hard drive" (not as pornographic as it sounds), and it took much longer than I'd've thought. To add insult to injury, the computer doesn't seem much faster, either. Doh.

How many blogs do you have?
Let's find out. One. Two-who-who-oo. Three. Crunch!!

    Three.

How many blogs do you "stalk"?
About 5 on a absolutely every day basis. About another 20 when I remember/have the time.
    I'm a bad stalker.

What the hell is a "blurty" anyway?
All the cool names were taken already.

"Tell me girl did I blow your mind?"
    Heeeeellllll yeeaah! [/psuedo-gangsta]
("Didn't I (Blow Your Mind)?" by New Kids on the Block)

    Exactly how evil was FOD?
It's like the First Evil, and Haloscan is like Jasmine. Huh.

    and finally....

Cut and paste a passage from some other blog. (Preferably one that I don't already frequent.) Links are also welcome.

This is from Damn the Man, Save the Empire!

In other news, we're going out ot see Finding Nemo tonight. This will be the first movie we've been to since The Jungle Book 2. You can draw your own conclusions about our movie-going. It should be fun, though. I have a strong suspicion that Finding Nemo will be a vast improvement over JB2.

Oh, and the Buffython is still going on at work.Yesterday, in fact, I watched Fool For Love, A New Man, and Helpless. I've just not been talking about the eps, since I didn't want to bore everyone.

    More than usual, that is.

Today, you are witnessing the birth of the newest gimmick.
    The bloq.

Most of you are familiar already with BOQ (Bunch Of Questions). A BLOQ is simply a boq in a blog.
Of course, if you take it literally, the "L" should stand for something.
Person A: Hey, P@, what does the "L" stand for in "bloq"?
    P@: "L if I know." [/official answer]

Anywhat, enough semantics and hemandhawing. Onto the first ever BLOQ!
And, appropriately enough, this one is about blogs. Yay!

    New Kids on the Bloq

I've got the Right Stuff. [/preamble]

OH! Also, for the sake of this bloq - the term "blog" refers to all online diaries. Blogger, blurty, diaryland, moveabletype, whatever. If you purge your thoughts online for the world to read, it's considered a blog. [up] [/disclaimer]

<b> How many blogs do you have? </b>

    This should prove interesting. [grin]
Also - don't worry. Even though I'll be doing the periodic bloq, I'll still be posting on the WD. I'm all over this Net thing. [wink]

    The Jury Duty Saga continues...

So I called the number yesterday, and my date for jury selection has been moved to June 10th. (Remember, I originally got the summons in the mail around the first of May) However, I'm supposed to call them (again) on the night of the 9th to see if I'm even wanted. If they remain true to form, when I call on the 9th, I should be pushed back another 6 or 7 days. It's really amazing that anything gets done with our legal system the way it is. [sigh]

I can't believe that it's already June! (almost) The year is just flying by. In two weeks, I'll be 28. Heh. 28 is a neat number.
Tomorrow I gotta send out the June PMQ...and I think I didn't copy some people's questions. I got most of them, but I think there were a few that slipped by me. Damn.

Steph made these lists for things to do, which, normally makes me cringe, but for whatever reason (I blame a) getting older and b) the fucking heat), these lists seemed really ...good. I want to do the things on them. They're family-oriented lists, and have chores and outing ideas and just overall things to do to prove we're living. I don't think I'm making any sense, but I know what I mean, and that's all that matters. (I KNOW!!) My point, anyway, was that Steph is our family glue. And I'm beyond grateful that we've got her. Stephanie rules. You should all go read her blog and tell her as much. [up]

On the way into work, I had some vision of a Buffy-type character on a quest to battle against the Sadness Machine. That would be a giant steel contraption that causes mass sorrow in the world. Such a machine certainly would deserve an ass-kicking. But not nearly as much as the creator of such a monstrosity. Who would make a Sadness Machine? What the hell for? Sheesh.
    Yeah, my brain is odd.

Actually, I think the idea was simply a mish-mash of Otherland (I'm rereading it right now. All you Matrix fans should get a copy as well. It's what The Matrix SHOULD have been), Buffy, and the Smashing Pumpkins (Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is the current tape I'm on). Still, my brain is odd.

    I like italics, apparently. [doh2]

I had some other thing to blog about, but now I've forgotten what it was. Some other time, then.

    Friday, May 30, 2003

I've seen descriptions of most of the fall's upcoming TV shows, and the only one I'm even half-way excited about is Chasing Alice. The premise is that Alice (of Alice in Wonderland fame) has a sister who works for Scottland Yard, and goes hunting her for her in Wonderland.

This has the potential to be really cool, or really crappy.

Other than that, though, the rest of the stuff sounds like garbage. There are two cop shows set in the future, and I'm mildly interested in checking them out, but overall, meh. I think I'll start reading more.

    Thursday, May 29, 2003

    "Justice delayed is justice denied."

I don't know where I heard that quote from. Either someone famous said it in RL, or I read it in a (fictional) book, or it was seen by me in a TV or movie. I'm sure one of you Internet Weirdos will know. Ya'll are smart like that.

Anywhat, the phrase is fitting with what I'm typing about. (Hee! Themed entry!!) My Jury Duty keeps getting pushed back.
When I called for the Tuesday info, I was told (via automation) to call back after 6pm on May 30th. {side note: I originally typed May 40th, which would've been really interesting. And also impossible.} So, I won't know whether I'm even "needed" to do my "civic duty" for another 26 hours. [sigh] I'm still interested in finding out how this all ends, but I really wish they'd just get it over with one way or another.

Speaking of Jury Duty, Will, the title of that show could be One-Twelfth of Justice. Or not. [shrug]

Going back to the title of this entry - I need to log onto the forums and see if a certain modly duty still needs to be fulfilled. My stomach hurts.

I'm htinking that my blog needs a template. Changes may be a-comin'. Stay tuned. Or something.

    Monday, May 26, 2003

Happy (??) Memorial Day, everyone. Whatever that means.

Anywhat, I'm at work. So far today, I've watched Buffy vs. Dracula (hee!!) and The Freshman. Apparently, it's Season Premiere Day. Um...not much to say about the shows. It was interesting seeing the Riley/Buffy relationship in it's self-destruction stages in BvD, and then turn around and see them meeting in The Freshman.

Erm...I'm bored, so I'm gonna answer my PMQ...

I was going to put a comment next to each name, but I don't have that kind of time. Or patience. Maybe later.

How many vehicles have you owned? And what (if anything) did you name them? (Hi, Del!!)
    Let's see...1...2...3...4. Four.
A white Toyota something-or-other that was just a "Get me from Point-A to Point-B" type of vehicle. Never named.
A brand new maroon Geo Metro. Nicknamed "Cassie 3".
A big black pimp-mobile type of thing. Nicknamed "Blindside".
Our current tan Toyota, which has no name.

What is the best Harrison Ford movie?
I'm still upset that nobody nominated Air Force One. "Get off my plane!" Classic!!

Name an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (Yes, I know it's not a question. But I'm curious to see if anyone names the episode I'm thinking of, and also if any episodes get multiple votes.)
I was thinking of Lover's Walk. (I had watched that one in my ongoing Buffy-marathon when I came up with the question.)
Only one person named it. (pellenaka)
Two people did name Doublemeat Palace (Fuchsia and gilibeanz) Other than that, no duplicates. Weird.

Who do you wish was posting more (or still)?
    Me.
    Steph.
And a good number of the people listed in my Address Book. You folks can figure out who I mean. [wink]

"I don't smoke, so why am I smokin'?"
Everyone knows that smoking is cool.

There are a lot of really bad children's programs on television. What is the absolute worst one you've seen?
For little children? The absolute worst kids show is Bloopy's Buddies. Man, that thing is just sad.
    For older kids? Everything.
For humans of any age? 7th Heaven. (It's on right now, much to my chagrin.)

What are you in denial about?
    Aging.

    Buffy update:

Thursday (which was UTP@ day, if you recall) I watched Out of My Mind. Which, upon reviewing simply reinforced my theory that Spike was never truly in love with Buffy, but was always under the influence of a chip.

Fri & Sat I was off (more on those days later)

Today I watched The Wish and Superstar. (It was alternative dimension day!!)
The Wish had the cool death scenes. [up]
    Superstar made me laugh again.

Friday and Saturday were fun. But I'm exhausted. Going out on the town has made me realize that I am, officially, old.
Oh well. There's no stopping it, I suppose.
The only drawback to the past two days is my own insecurities that start to sink in after the fact. I'm all worried (now) that Matt and Becky and Annika and Will don't like me. Mostly due to my quietness, and lack of contribution to the conversations.

Oh well. At least I'm interesting and well-liked online. I think I shall spend all my time there instead. ("I KNOW!!")

Today at work the microwave was broken, so I spent my 8 hour shift starving. That was not nearly as fun as it sounds. When I got home, I ate and am feeling better, though. (yay)

Hey! Tomorrow is a holiday, so I get paid overtime for working it. Score!

    Time for bed.

    Saturday, May 24, 2003

    I REALLY need a Pepsi.

    It's a good thing I don't drink alcohol.

    Friday, May 23, 2003

Good lord, too much has happened to update on. I can't wait until we're all Matrix-y, and then people can just download my memory files. It'll be like telepathy, only...cooler. Plus, it'll be freakin easier as hell.

Going back several days, Jury Duty was a bust. Apparently the day before the courthouse had a power outtage, and they dumped everyone who was there that day out, asking them to return on the next day. So when I arrived Wednesday morning, so did a majority of folks who had been there on Tuesday.

So, to make a long story short (too late [grin]), about 200 of us were asked to come back on the 27th. We'll see what happens.

What else? Oh! Buffy ended. I made a really long, somewhat angry post that nobody read or responded to. (I'll put a link in later, because I want at least the important people to read it. [feedback would make me happy too. ;)])
    Um...

Thursday was HELL. I stayed up until at least 3 am, and had to be to work at 7. There was a time at work during that UTP@ day when everything was funny. And then I got VERY grumpy, which was not so much fun. And then on the drive home, I fell asleep and got into an accident. (not really, but it's amazing that it didn't go down that way)

Today was better. I actually got some sleep, so I wasn't operating at lower than optimum brain capacity (ha ha ha). I also (obviously) got to go back online for the first time in several days. (Yay for playing catch up. [rolleyes])
Also, I spoke to Annika (briefly) and everything is all set for tomorrow. WOO!
Of course, when I say "everything" what I really mean is "everything but cleaning the house, which is totally unpresentable". [sigh]
I should be cleaning rather than typing, but guess what's gonna end up winning in that battle of the wills.

And the highlight of the day, of course, was meeting Matt and Becky. They're truly nice people, and very funny to boot. We didn't exactly tear up the town (we stayed inside the Excalibur - and mostly at the midway), but I think everyone had an enjoyable time. Tomorrow should be more "adult" since we won't have the girls with us, and there will be 6 of us. Bang Pow!

Erm...I guess that's all. I feel like I'm forgetting something incredibly important, and I probably am, but I guess it'll hit me later. In the meantime, I need to get the girls to sleep, and then finish washing the dishes. Hopefully I won't slice my finger open. Because while getting out of washing the dishes would be nice, losing another finger is a bit of a steep price to pay.

    Wednesday, May 21, 2003

It's nearly 3am and I have to be to the courthouse for Jury Duty at 8.

    I'm so screwed.

    Tuesday, May 20, 2003

    So much!!

Okay, briefly, because if I get going, I'll never shut up, and I'll also forget about something that needs to be blogged about.

    Two days off!! YAYY!!

Tomorrow I do yard work, straighten up the lawn, whack the weeds, etc. I mowed the front yard today, but need to do a more complete job of both the front and back.

Also tomorrow - we're going bowling. Saren is ultra excited about it. (It'll be her first time. She was asking me all sorts of questiions about it tonight, when she was supposed to be going to sleep.)

Another thing that's taking place tomorrow - we'll be purchasing a new vacuum cleaner! Woo!

Also on the agenda for the 20th - I call to find out the details of Jury Duty.

Oh! And Buffy will close it's universe's doors once and for all. (Of course, Angel will continue, as well Everwood, so it's not totally gone, but still...)

Speaking of Buffy: Tonight's viewings were Intervention (as promised) and Band Candy.
Just some quick comments about those.
Intervention was fun. I miss the Buffybot. Although this episode shows again why Spuffy is a horrific idea. The guy fucking built a sex-toy about the woman he couldn't have. Issues much?
Also of note in this episode - Buffy's guide that lead her to the Spirit Guide (in the form of the First Slayer) was a giant cat. Not a panther, but interesting nonetheless.
Band Candy made me laugh out loud several times. Xander on the SATs: "I believe they're biased against the uninformed." Classic
I remember when it first aired, I liked it, but I think since I've aged some, it was even better. And Ethan Rayne is such a cool mini-villian. Shame they didn't get him back more. Or maybe it's better they didn't. I mean, Clem was wonderful at first, but wound up overused.

While on tv...the season finales of 7th Heaven and Everwood were on tonight.
7H has the creepiest people you will ever find anywhere. Period. Thing 1 and Thing 2 (aka "the twins" aka "Sam and David") should be stopped. Yesterday. They're just...[shudder]
And HEEEE!! Simon pulled a "Pretty Woman"!!

Everwood pissed me off because they attended the "Season Finales must be cliffhangers" school of thought. However, they had two more Buffyverse tie-ins, so that's okay.
    1) The "mud wrestle aligators" line.
    2) The episode (which was,as I stated above, the season finale) was entitled Home.

During a commercial break, I called Annika's house to let her know about these. But I got her machine, so I hung up.

Erm...I guess that's all. I feel like there's more, but meh.

    Monday, May 19, 2003

    Heh.

I was going to post about Buffy, but then figured that people reading this might be a bit tired of my BtVS ramblings.
So I sat here, wondering what to blog about instead.

After several minutes of staring at a blank screen, I decided to head over to blogideas to get some inspiration.
The idea that first popped up?
    TV shows you never miss.

    Ahem.

For the past two years or so, the syndicated runs of Buffy (s1-5) have been coming down on the satellites on Thursdays. (9:30am, Telestar 5, transponder 10) When I've been able to, I've recorded the feeds onto DVC tapes, and stored them in my private stash. The original plan was to transfer them onto VHS so that I'd have my own copies.
However, I've scratched that plan. Why? A few reasons.
[-] The show is ending, and s6 and s7 have been disappointing. They've been so bad, in fact, that they've sullied my view of the earlier seasons. (Sad, but true)
[-] Where would I get that many video tapes anyway? And even if I did get enough tapes to record the series, when would I watch them? Besides, in a few years, we'll probably get a DVD player, and then I can (if I'm still all into the show) buy them on DVD.
[-] We're moving into the new building in about a month. If I were to do the DVC to VHS transfer, I'd have to finish it before then. Since the only time I'd have the chance to do that would be on weekends, it's just not possible.

So. Instead, for the past three weeks or so, I've been giving the episodes that I have one final viewing, and then tearing off the label, and adding the tapes back into the library to be recorded over. I started with about 80 of the eps. I'm down to about 30.
It's been interesting rewatching the old show. (although I'll admit there have been eps I've not really "watched". Today I had Pangs running, but I didn't have my full attention devoted to it) The other day, for example, I watched Fear, Itself and was incredibly amused to discover that there was a scene with a guy dressed as a lobster in it!! Shout out? I think so. [grin]

I think, from now, until I finish watching, I'll mention in the blog what episode(s) I watched at work that day, along with any commentary that occurs to me. Why? [shrug] I dunno. Something to do, I guess.

Today, in addition to Pangs was Smashed (I know that's S6. I had taped that from the UPN feed on a Tuesday night that I had been working. I have a few S6 shows in my stash. One of them is Once More, With Feeling. I plan on having that be the final tape I watch.)
Despite the fact that Smashed was the introduction to two of the worst things Buffy has ever done (Spuffy, magicrack, and Spuffy), I actually kinda liked it this time around. Seeing Amy de-ratted was amusing, and full of promise (too bad they dropped the ball with that). Spike thinking his chip had failed was disturbing fun as well. (Made me hope that we were getting Big Bad Spike back. Nope. [sigh]) Jonathon's hair looked funky in the ep, though. Made him look ...younger, or something. And the fact that the freeze ray was never used again was always something that bothered me.
Neat thing that I didn't notice the first time: When they're researching the diamond/frozen guard connection, Xander says, "I found it!" And Anya says, "That's the D&D manual."
Which, of course, meant that Xander had (again) found the truth. It's really shocking how often something Xander says or does ends up having some kernel of truth to it.

Wow. Super long entry, all about the Buffster.
I think tomorrow I'll watch Intervention and post something different.

    Sunday, May 18, 2003

Yay!! I found the Jury Duty paper!! I feel so much better now.

I pinned it to the bulletin board. Now, as long as I don't misplace the bulletin board, things will be fine.

Blah. I hate having nothing to say. Hopefully later I'll be able to blog again with something of interest.
I cried at work today. [rolleyes]
I watched for the first time Mr. Holland's Opus, and their usage of "Beautiful Boy" got to me. That, and the end. I'm a sap when it comes to standing ovations/crowds supporting a single individual. I think that's what helps The Prom and Graduation Day pt. 2 be such special episodes.

Um...what else? I forgot. I know I had something to say, but it's completely escaped me now. Doh.

Speaking of misplacing things (I was, wasn't I?), I seem to have misplaced my Jury Duty papers. Major sigh. And major anxiety. I'm sure that Steph is right, and the court has a "back up" system in place, and it'll all be taken care of Monday, but still. Grrrr.

Why is Fear Factor still on television? I so don't understand.

Oh, and summer has officially begun here in Vegas. We've started using the AC in both the house and the car. Only 6 more months until it cools down again!! Yay!!

The Buffy/Everwood connections: (prepare to be underwhelmed!!)

    • Both shows take place in small-town communities, roughly the same size. (Granted, Everwood gets more snow than Sunnydale, but it has been known to snow there from time to time.)

    • Buffy has a girl named Amy (who turned out to be a rat. And a witch.) Everwood has a girl named Amy (who has done some rat-like things, but is probably not into magic. Or is she? [eyebrow]

    • The first couple of episodes had Doc Brown's dead wife appearing to him. This was obviously the First.

    • The coma connection. Everwood had Colin. Buffy has had: Willow (S2), Faith (S3 & 4), and [Begin spoiler for Angel S4, Inside Out onward-highlight to view]Cordelia[end spoiler]

    • Amy's mom is the Mayor. Buffy also had a character known as the Mayor.

    • On Everwood, Doc Brown plays god and performs brain surgery on a young man. On Buffy a god performs brain surgery on a young woman.

    • Last week's episode of Everwood was called Fear Itself. (I didn't see the fear demon, but he is pretty small....)

    • All those vampires that get killed in both shows.

I'm really thinking that Buffy is going to end up with Buffy Summers waking up in Everwood, CO...

    Wednesday, May 14, 2003

I don't want Buffy to end. Less than a week to go until the final episode.

And the trailer made it look as though it's gonna be a good one.

    [sigh]

I'll be retiring my water bottle after Buffy's done, too, btw. I've had it since S2. Half the writing has worn off, so it looks like it's advertising a show called Bully ampire slayer, and it constantly leaks at the top because the lid doesn't screw on right anymore, but it'll be sad to see it go. (The show, and the water bottle)

I was originally going to write about the Everwood/Buffy connections, but I'll save that for another time.

    Tuesday, May 13, 2003

Okay, I defeated King Bowser. Where's my refund?

    Monday, May 12, 2003

I may be stupid, but I'm not smart

All of the blogs I read (on a regular basis, that is, not just random ones that happen to be on blogger's main page) are written by people who are either more intelligent than I am, or at least more interesting. Why is that?

I think the number of words I know (that word would be "vocabulary") is like 2000. Maybe.

I want(ed) to write some fiction today. (Need you ask? Of course it was the ever-elusive "Perth" story. The damn thing that i've had in my head (or bits of it, at any rate) for the past 5 years, and done nada about.) But did I? Nope. So, not only dumb, but lazy to boot. The greatness that is me knows no boundaries!

In less self-pity-ing news, They Might Be Giants are wonderful. The song "Ana Ng" always reminds me of HyperOnion, whom I really like. I should give him this address, in case he feels like stopping by.

Um.......okay, done. (See, Beth? That was a lame denouement.)

    Sunday, May 11, 2003

I am so tired of being tired.

Anyone remember that PSA from several years back, that said (something along the lines of) "Nobody ever says they want to be a druggie when they grow up" ?

While that may or may not be true, I somehow doubt that anyone ever says, "When I grow up, I want my life to have an empty, unfillable void. I want to join the Rat Race and go to a job I loathe five days a week for forty years. I want to spend years neglecting my dreams and desires and instead fitter them watching hours upon hours of mind-numbing bad television, and surfing time-wasting websites. When I grow up, I hope my soul is a black hole of depression and crappiness, and I need drugs to escape the banality and cruelity of life."

Or maybe some people do say that, and they don't get what they want either.

Wow. This isn't meaning to sound as depressing as it's coming across. I'm just kinda in a haze (or daze. Or zone. Or something.) and I haven't really given much thought about what I'm saying.

On the way home from work today, I came incredibly close to running over a stray dog. Luckily, I slowed down, but sheesh, that animal had some balls to just strut into the middle of the road like he owned the thing.

Do you ever have times when you just want to smash ugly things? When you wish there were some sort of weaker, uglier alien race nearby that we could conquer? And anytime that you had rage issues, you'd just storm over and beat the tar out of one of them?

    Guess it's just me, then.

I think I need to get drunk.

    Thursday, May 08, 2003

So far all I can think of that I want for my birthday is the Orko action figure currently available in McDonald's happy meals, as part of their "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" promotion.

Of course, the He-Man/Battlecat combo is undoubtedly cooler, but the wacky magician will always have a special place in my heart.

    Also, spaghetti.

Mother of peark, I am TIRED.

I had a dream a few nights back that Jamie changed the WD. It was all....different. Like the text was floaty, and three-dimensional. And blue.
    And Angie was a mod.

    Weird.

What else? Oh! I should so go on the Price is Right. I was off by 49 cents. BAM!

Most non-manly thing to admit today: Angel almost made me cry.
    [rolleyes]

Next week Matrix Reloaded opens. And two weeks from now, I'll know whether I'm going to be on a jury or not.
    Yay May! Or something.
Note to self: Most stop blogging while exhausted.

    Tuesday, May 06, 2003

Tonight's Everwood mostly made me re-realize how much I despise religion.

On a completely unrelated matter, I think the world would be much better off if human beings had a better sense of smell.

    Sunday, May 04, 2003

Man, I haven't posted in forever.

I'd almost forgotten what the internet was like.

Okay, there's really only one thing on my mind right now, and that would be the season finale of Alias.

    I hope the tags work.
[Begin spoiler for "Second Double" and "The Seeing" highlight to view -]
    DUDE!!!!!
The thing that irks me the most, is the waiting to find out. Cliffhangers SUCK!!
Although, the fanwanking (read: speculation) has already begun in earnest around these parts, and I will now share the most entertaining (or not) theories with my appreciative audience. (That would be you)

It's obvious to me that the Telling is a time machine. Syd was put into it (probably by Sloan) and put into the future (or, rather a possible future). The stuff to back me up on this theory:
Sloan's dialouge with Jack in Mexico City included the following bits:
[-] "It took me a long time - longer than I thought. But I got them [the Rimbaldi artifacts]."
    [-] "I've seen what's possible."
[-] "We'll see each other again, Jack."

Also, the part where SpyMommy was on the ledge of the building was a total nod to Back to the Future. When she jumped off, she should have been saved by a flying DeLorean.

Speaking of SpyMommy - remember her message to Sydney from about 5 episodes back? "Truth Takes Time". Mm-hmm.

The thing that doesn't quite fit into this theory is the scar. If she were simply transported two years into the future, her wounds shouldn't have had time to heal. So maybe she was just held captive somewhere for the past 730 days...

And was the scar from the fight with the FrancieBot? Or...is there maybe a SydneyBaby out there?

And why didn't SpyDaddy come in to talk to her? [frown]

And why do I have to wait all summer to find out?!?!
    [sigh]

Steph came up with the best idea, though. Next season will pick up where it left off. Syd and Vaughn walk out of that room, and all of the CIA are in the next room, and yell, "Surprise!!" I love my wife.

Oh. I forgot to mention that Sydney must have the cheapest furniture in the world. Maybe she buys it at the same place Buffy gets hers from?
    [end spoiler]

    Thursday, May 01, 2003

So, to sum up the meeting today:

My job (and everyone's in Master Control) is going to change drastically in the next two months. No vacation time will be approved for the month of June, and mandatory overtime and/or long-days will be required of everyone for training on the new switcher and preparing for the move to the new building. Apparently, we're to be moved (and be starting news [fucking news]) on June 23rd. Which means all of the operators need to be trained and ready to roll before then.

Also - there were rumors of a dress code being implemented. GRRRRRRRRRR. Although Greg (our supervisor's supervisor) said that he would talk to Upper Management about allowing jeans. If it turns out that jeans aren't allowed, I'm just gonna show up to work pantless. We'll see how well they like them apples.

    What else?

The girls are havign a "picnic" right now. They've spread out a blanket on the living room floor, and brought out a plethora of stuffed animals and dolls who are the "guests" of the picnic. If I weren't so damn tired, I'd join them.

We made up stories earlier. Saren told a very creative tale about Princess Wackywoo (she was named that because she was always wacky, and she always said "woo") being turned into a unicorn, and how Princess Saren made a spell to revert her back to her human form. [up]

I made up some sleep-deprived nonsense about a group of people looking for the "lost pyramid" in a jungle. They encountered some quicksand, but some fast thinking and use of rope resulted in the crisis being averted.
Chapter two was simply: "They found the door."

Earlier I was takign the laundry out of the dryer and I just totally lost my train of thought.

Don't worry, another one will be along in a minute.

I have a semi-ammusing post idea for the WD, but I just do not have the strength to log in to make it. And today is the first, so the new PMQ should be going out. Damn my laziness. Damn it to meh!

    Wednesday, April 30, 2003

Oooh! I win!! It's a small victory, and not exactly what I wanted, but it's better than nothing.

Tonight's Angel, while less than perfect was so much better than Buffy. I wish there were 3 (or more!!) episodes of Angel left and only one of BtVS.

Bally is like, the British version of me. The posts he makes and the ideas he comes up with...remind me of how I used to be, when I was all into posting on the forums. I wonder if I'll ever get that spark back. I hope so.

Tomorrow I go back to work already. Having one day off this week was crap. At least the overtime-money will come in handy. [/keep telling myself that] I just wish we had it now. We've got three dollars until next payday. Whee!

Tomorrow is the first of May already?? Who put the year on fast forward?

I got a summons for Jury Duty!!!! As an indication of just how sad my life is, I'm actually looking forward to it! I've never gotten Jury Duty before in my life, so I'm going to treat it as a new experience, something to savor and enjoy.

It's falling on the 21st. The day after Buffy ends. I'll be sure to keep everyone updated.

And again, Blogger is annoyingly stupid at times.

    Tuesday, April 29, 2003

The good news: I'm learning how to type pretty quickly (and error free!) with only 9 fingers.

The bad news (unrelated to the good news): I have to work tomorrow, which would normally be a day off.

The worse news (related to the bad news): When I go to work Thursday, there is a meeting at 3pm, so I have to stick around for that.

In other news: Why is blogger so stupid sometimes?

    Sunday, April 27, 2003

    Bloody hell.

So I was washing the dishes today, and somehow, while I was holding a glass, it broke, and I sliced my right pinky finger open.

It's all bandaged up, and between the throbbing and the coldness (from the lack of blood flow), it's actually kinda cool. It's been a while since I've been injured and now I can milk this for all it's worth. Plus, it gives me the chance to steal some supplies from the First Aid kit here at work.

The cut itself was pretty deep, and right next to a vein, so there was quite a bit of blood. Maybe I'm just weird, but the whole thing was rather interesting to watch. Saren didn't like it, though. She was concerned about my safety and was saying stuff like, "I hope your cut goes away soon." She's such a good person. She must've inherited it from Steph.

Oh. And I've (obviously) broken my self-imposed internet restriction. At least for now. In another 10 minutes or so, I'll be off to watch Smallville. (dork.)

OOH! And I had a Buffy dream! But I won't bore you with the details.

I guess that's everything. I shall leave you with these words of wisdom from Supertramp, which have been in my head since earlier today:

Right, right, you're bloody well right....

    Saturday, April 26, 2003

    Doh!!

It appears that I was banning everyone from my comments for a while there. It happened as an accident. Apparently, if you ban an IP address at the Haloscan website, and put a comma after the last one, it bans every IP. Interesting. It is all taken care of, and nobody (except for Throaty) is banned anymore. Sorry about that.

And, heck, why not. Stalker roll call. You know, since you can leave a message, you might as well.

Annika called today! That was, as it always is, a pleasant surprise. It reminded me that I need to use up and/or purchase another phone card.

Um...what else? The girls finger painted today. If I had a scanner, I'd upload pics for ya'll. Until then, you'll just have to imagine them for yourselves. They were quite colorful. (the pictures and the girls' hands. [wink])

It's freakin' 12:30. I have to be awake in less than 5 hours. No wonder Thursdays produce UTP@. [sigh]

OOH! I have a neat idea for a post/poll on the WD! That hasn't happened to me in forever!

Tonight's Angel had moments of true hilarity, and moments of true creepiness, and moments of just blah. Overall, though, I liked it.

    Tuesday, April 22, 2003

Well, normally I wait until I have 100 PMs in my inbox, but that doesn't look like it's gonna happen anytime soon, so I'll just go ahead and answer it now.

What kind of fool do you take me for?
    [jester]
That kind. (I'm too lazy/bored to actually find a link to the jester icon. Forgive me.)

Complete the following sentence: "Just between you and me, I'm really glad that Jennifer, Throaty, mauki, The_Witch, Avery, 20kabillion, Zatharas, and Kingman.is are not posting anymore."
Funny enough, 20kabillion got the most votes (4) even though at the time she still was posting.

Where do you see yourself in 10 seconds?
Wondering where I see myself in 10 minutes.

Where do you see yourself in 10 minutes?
Hey! I was right! Um..7:13pm...I'll probably be logging off the internet, doing some dishes and figuring out what I'll be having for dinner.

Where do you see yourself in 10 hours?
5:14am on the 23rd? I'll (hopefully) be sound asleep.

Where do you see yourself in 10 days?
That would be May 3rd. I'll probably just be at work. Recording a new episode of Alias. Answering next month's PMQ responses. [shrug] Boring.

Where do you see yourself in 10 weeks?
That would be July 1st. The day before Harper turns 3. So, most likely, getting prepared for the next day.

Where do you see yourself in 10 months?
Feb. 22nd of 2004? That would be 2 days before our 6th anniversary. Hopefully love will be in the air. [wink] [wink] [nudge] [nudge]
Also, it would be nice if we had some cash saved away at that point in time. And will have decided if/where we are moving to.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
    2013. Hmm. I'll be 37. Saren'll be 15. Harper, 12.
Well, hopefully we'll have moved out of Las Vegas by then. And that would, of course, mean having a new job. Something where I can work from home would be ideal, but I really have no clue what I would like to do.
Of course, if the Mayans are correct, it won't matter by that point.

Where do you see yourself in 10 decades?
    2103....
I dunno. Depending on how science progresses over the next few decades, we could all very well live several hundred years. I know I'd like to.
I guess by that time if I haven't travelled somewhere I'll be pretty upset with myself.

Where do you see yourself (or humanity) in 10 centuries?
This is interesting to think about. If you think back 1000 years, a lot has changed in society. I really doubt that the folks living in 1003 AD could even concieve of how different life is now.
But, you go back 1000 years from there, and really, not that much had changed. I mean, you take someone living in 03AD, and put them in a time machine and drop them off in 1003, and they'd most likely adjust pretty well.
But if someone from 1003 were to be time-warped to now, they might just go insane.
So. Would someone from 2003 be able to make it in 3003?

    I dunno.

It's become difficult for us to imagine that far into the future. I think that this is due to our focus on the now. We have become an incredibly short-sighted species. If the lifespan does indeed expand to hundreds of years, that will have to change. It really should change anyway, if we're going to leave any type of worthwhile planet for our descendants.
Of course, the Mayans might be right, and it won't matter anyway. [wink]

What if they threw a war and nobody showed up?
It would be fought by General Apathy and Major Boredom. (points to who catches the reference)

What is the best damn band ever?
There is only one correct answer to this question.
    It is thus:

    Music. Pffffft.

    and finally...

Tell me something I don't know.
How can I tell myself something I don't already know?
    Gah! Logic loop! circuits fizzle
I kinda like the idea of having nemesis..ises.
Growing up, I never had any enemies. (Or if I did, they all did it behind my back) Now, though, I've got several fiends to contend with. It's fun.

I highly recommend it to everyone.

I can only hope that eventually there's a season finale and a big ol' battle in which many people die. I'll keep you informed.
I was so adorabley annoying as a child.

    I guess we all were.

I can't believe it's already nearing the end of April. Note to god (or whatever): Slow time down.

Note to self: Write GAP Interview.

    Better.

    Friday, April 18, 2003

Holy fucking crap! There was a gigantic black widow spider crawling on our sliding glass door to the porch.
Being UTP@ (and still awake? What the hell?, man. What the hell?), I got all freaked out (note: I would've no doubt been freaked out even if I was not currently running on 2.5 hr. of sleep and approacinng the 24 hour mark...)

What was my point? Oh! Yes. I got the bug spray from under the sink, and commenced to get chemical on his ass.

He (or she, I didn't bother to check the spider's genitals) then began to curl up and go through the death throes. Fascinating stuff. The thing was truly the size of a quarter (at least), so I'm not mourning it's death. I'm just
    a) glad it didn't get inside
    and
    b) hoping that it didn't have the chance to breed. The last thing I want is spider eggs near where my hcildren play.

And here it is, your moment of zen.

    Thursday, April 17, 2003

    About the "moments of zen":

They aren't supposed to have any special meaning or anything. They're just there. A weird, or funny, or stupid, or whatever picture. Or maybe a link to a game or a song or a video or a website. Whatever I feel like linking to.

Also, I'm curious as to how long it'll take before I get a "zen" or "buddhist" ad at the top of my blog. [doh2]

    Um... What else? [shrug] I don't remember. I'm , I think, the tiredest UTP@ I've been in a LONG time. [/pity]

And now, here it is, your moment of zen.

    Wednesday, April 16, 2003

All day long I've had this "I've been punched really hard in the chest" feeling. That's always fun.

Earlier today Saren and Harper went outside and got all muddy. (It rained yesterday all night long, leaving us with a muddy porch/backyard) They were our Dirty Girls.

(Oooh. Check out this segway) Saren and I played Buffy today, and she won, twice. We played the version where I was the Mayor (which Saren kept calling "The Master"). She used the Living Flame to destroy the box of Garvok before I could ascend. But we kept playing after that until she could kill the Mayor as well. (Side note: Using the Mayor, you could totally cheat and just use the Mayor to kill all the Scoobies, without ascending. Since he's immortal until he becomes a demon, that's kinda a loophole.)
Anywhat, while we were playing, at one point Oz became a werewolf, and Saren moved him over to where Buffy was and had him attack Buffy. She said that she did that because one time on the show, when Oz was a werewolf, he tried to attack Buffy. (true enough)
Later, I vamped Buffy, and Saren broke into tears.
I compromised with her by giving her the "Soul Restoration" card and allowed her to use it to make Buffy human again. (Hey, it worked on Darla. Or maybe it was Buffy who shanshus. [wink])

Anyway, the game was more exciting than the episode tonight.

And here it is, your moment of zen.

    Tuesday, April 15, 2003

    Hmmm.

I'll have to do some testing with the ol' google-meister first. And, of course, the templateness. [sigh]

    Or, rather: Yay! A challenge!!

Sorry. Thinking aloud again. And now, my new way of ending all my blog entries.

And here it is, your moment of zen.
    I was so very wrong.

    It's not violence.

It's caring. And love. And nurturing and friendship.

    And money.

    Monday, April 14, 2003

If I ever meet mayhem, I may die of lack of oxygen to the brain. I don't think he's human. He's just too funny.

I was thinking earlier today that it seems like there's some easy-all-encompassing solution to humanity's ills, if we could just figure it out.
It's not religion. Cause we've seen how well that works. [rolleyes]
It's not politics either. (ya hear that, Washington? [the place, not the president])

It could be sex. I mean, the bonobos seem to have used that pretty succesfully. But sex and children are, despite what The_Witch might say, not supposed to mix, and that leaves them out of the solution. The answer I'm looking for includes everyone. So, sex, while close, isn't the answer.

My next option? Laughter. And while I think that laughter, like sex, has near-universal appeal, not everyone has the same sense of humor. (as evident by the comments in my entry two ...entries ago.) Also, there are some people who have no sense of humor at all. (see some folks on the WD for proof positive of this) Hmm. So looks like funny is off the list. How sad. (hee! I crack myself up.)

So maybe it's music. Music is supposedly a universal language. And I suppose, in many ways, it is. Unless you're deaf. Or don't speak the language that the song is sung in. Or just tune it out. I mean, much as I love Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy.", if I'm in a bad mood, and determined to stay there, not even his crooning will get me out of my funk.

So what else do we all have in common? What is our link to each other that we all must recognize in order to transcend?

I think it's violence. War and killing and death and destruction and cruelty and meanness. That will be our saving grace. It's what we're good at. It's why we're here. Hurrah for violence!

"And I'm hungry like the wolf."

Heh. I've been looking at the screen, trying to think of something to type for almost ten minutes now. Still nothing.

Um...if I'd thought of it earlier, I would've made a post on the WD a few days back (the 10th maybe? I forget what day exactly) when the year was 100 days old. It would've been 2003: The Year (so far) In Review. I'm such a dork.

I need to go scrounge up some food.

    Saturday, April 12, 2003

One of the keys to comedy is timing. I know this, and I'm not even that funny.

You'd think that Colin Quinn would have picked this up somewhere during his 20 year career as a "comedian".

Sheesh. That guy mangles every single joke he attempts to tell. If anyone can tell me how he managed to get his own show on Comedy Central is beyond me. How he manages to keep it is just mind-boggling.

    blogblogblogblogblogblogblogblog....

We've gotten into this awful pattern of staying awake until 3 or 4 in the morning and not waking up until 1 in the afternoon. The day is totally wasted, and we end up lounging aroudn the house, doing nothing. Blah. Must go to sleep earlier. Or, wake up sooner. Whatever.

We did go to the library today, and I got a new book by Robert J. Sawyer. I must say that I really enjoy the books of his that I've read ("Calculating God" and "Flash Forward") and this one ("Hominids") is no different. I'm already 80 pages in and enjoying it muchly.

My stomach is all growly. When I become god and design a universe, I'll make it so that the species in it don't have to eat so often.

Speaking of all mighty beings, I had this thought the other day, figured I'd share:

I don't see how any sane person can believe in god when things such as lonliness exist.

    Saturday, April 05, 2003

    Random thoughts:

(too lazy/time constricted to make bullet points. Maybe I'll edit them in later.)

[-] The real reason those people were burning/destroying the Dixie Chicks CDs was not because of anti-Bush statements, but because they finally heard their cover of "Landslide". That thing is horrid.

    [-] Cube2 tonight!! Woo!!

[-] I'm not going online at work anymore. [sigh] The desire is still there, but I've decided to try and be more "professional" at work now. Which means my time online is shorter. Which means I'm making the most of it. Yay for not wasting time!

[-] I'm three years old on the WD today. (as "the P@" anyway, I've been there longer) I was going to make a big ol' post (and still might) but I don't know what I'd say. Also, today is Mary's 3 year anniversary. And tomorrow, if I remember correctly, is Adam's.

[-] I started to watch Sling Blade last night on Bravo. It was 3am, so we decided to go to bed, and I recorded the rest. I have no idea when I'll watch it, because I've got no time. I've got to go to work in an hour and a half, and I still have to shower and do some dishes. And tonight I would like Steph to record Cube2, so my TV viewing schedule is packed. Thank god there's not a new Alias tonight (tomorrow) or I'd never get caught up. The parts of Sling Blade I did see were entertaining enough, even though I reckon nothin' much happened. Mmm-hmm. I'm intrigued enough to watch the rest of the movie, so that's saying something, I guess.

[-] Last night there was a fire down the road. We smelled smoke, and feared that our computer's monitor had been on too long and was smoking. When we heard the sirens, and realized that it was not us, there was much rejoicing.

    [-] My feet are cold.

[-] Doh! Remind me to make a boq (on the WD) about blogs. I'm thinking of calling it "New kids on the bloq."

[-] I don't think I've read a book since January. This is just sad.

    Thursday, April 03, 2003

Note to self (and all interested parties reading): Leaving the internet for six days ends up meaning you have a lot of catching up to do when you return. I highly recommend either not taking internet breaks to begin with, or that everyone else just stop talking whenever you are away.

So I went back to work today. It's weird. Whenever I'm away from work for many days, when I go back, the place looks cleaner. This time was no exception, but there was an actual reason for it. In my absence, a bunch of new equipment had been installed. (For NAB coming up, we've got to look "professional" [laughing head times ten]) Also when I came back to work today, the place almost caught on fire. Welcome back! (The fire story is much less interesting than it sounds, so I won't recap it here.)

What was the other thing I was going to say? I totally don't remember.

Oh! A few weeks back, during Angel, Saren ...er...everyone reading this is either American or up-to-date on spoilers for the shows that have aired, yes? I don't want to spoil any of hte foriengers out there, so I'll hold off on the Saren comments until I know for sure. (I could just make them "blinvisible" but I'm feeling much too lazy/tired to do that, and will instead spend countless amounts of energy (over)explaining why I'm not doing that. Don'tchya just love UTP@? [rolleyes])

Whenever the next election is ('04, right? God. A whole nother year of Dumbfuck? [sigh]) I'm going to vote. I doubt sincerely that it'll make a difference, but I just feel I need to do something to say "Fuck you" to King George the 2nd. Why the hell can't the Dalai Lama be our president? Or even Spongebob Squarepants.

I still have to blog, and at least log on to the WD, so I think I'll end this now.

    Thursday, March 27, 2003

This War on the Senses that CNN is conducting does have some amusing points. Like today, when some computer hackers hacked into Al-Jazera's website and changed the homepage to an American flag.
And something about how other people trying to get to that site were redirected to porn. [laughing head]

Damn. I wanted to talk about something other than that three letter word that everyone is talking about, but I've got nothing.

We watched Quantum Leap today on SciFi. It was the last episode in the "evil leaper" trilogy. The problem with most television shows (okay, every television show) is that stuff just can't be explained well enough. We never find out what happened to Alia, or why Lothos existed at all.

But the cool thing was that Sweet (Hinton Battle) was in it as a hologram (just like Al). And the episode even had someone say the line, "It's showtime." Heee! [/geek]

I mowed the front lawn today, and I still smell faintly of grass. It makes me feel all manly. [rolleyes]

I wanted today to be a no internet day, but look how well that turned out. Oh well. Resolve is for the weak. Or something.

I hope the final episodes of Buffy provide some Shock and Awe.

You have NO IDEA how much I want money right now. [SIGH!!]

I go back to work in a week. Bleah.

Got mail from Loki today! Wooooo! I love getting mail. I should write some letters. But
    a) my writing is horrific
    b) I've got nil to say
    c) I have no option C. [wink]

"Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, War. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out... and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel.... And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for "the universal brotherhood of man" - with his mouth".

"The human race has one really effective weapon, and that is laughter."

Anyone know a place where you can get free server space? A spot where you can upload images for storage? Cuz that would help me out tremendously.

Republicans dont' really strike me as the type of people who would be really considered with the well-being of the Iraqi people. Actually, Republicans don't really strike me as the type of people who would be compassionate toward the well-being of any people. But particularly not people who are not Americans. So while the whole "the war is for a regime change" line may have some truth to it, I really doubt the sincerity of the "we're doing it for the Iraqis" aspect.

Gah. I'm totally not explaining myself clearly. I need some Pepsi.

    Monday, March 24, 2003

My wife really is remarkable. (Chainsaw, I already know that I'm queer. But you can tell me again, if you want. [wink])

Apparently some sort of illness fairies have moved into our home.

I'm more or less over whatever I had, but now the girls are sick again. This is news of the most not good variety. I'd gladly be sick again in their place. [frown] In the meantime, we'll be giving them children's aspirin, lots of liquids and rest, and I'm going to hunt down and murderate the illness fairies.
    Interesting thing I noticed.
Osama bin Laden sends out a video tape, and our government has to go over it with a fine-toothed comb before giving it the okay to air, fearing there might be 'messages' to terrorist cells.

Saddam Hussein goes on the air LIVE with no fear that he may be sending messages at all?

    [shrug] Whatever.

    It's my wife's birthday!! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!

    Woo-hoo, witch-ay woman! [wink]

Hot damn, I'm a lucky guy. I'm also as funny as a kick in the crotch.

as funny as a kick in the crotch!!

Riverworld did so not live up to the hype and anticipation. [sigh] Few things do, I suppose.

For a while, I was worried that I had somehow contracted SARS. I'm hyperbolic like that. [doh2] I still suspect that I might have some sort of lung infection, but it's not life-threatening.

My face itches. I wonder if I should shave my beard.

I was reading through my '99 journal, and god damn, I was
    a) prolific
    b) witty
    c) interesting.

    What happened?

I [heart] Google. It answers all my questions. (um...except for the one I just asked, but that might just be because I haven't been searching for the right words. [wink])

    <b> Begin spoiler for "Orpheus" </b> <text color=FFFFFF> </text color>

    Does dance of templatey goodness.

    Man, I hate being sick.

Blog entry purposefully not discussing war.

    Tuesday, March 18, 2003

I went and jinxed myself with my last entry. I'm totally sick now, and it's just as much nonfun as I remember it being. [rolleyes]

    Anywhat, PMQ time.

March is said to come in like a lion, and go out like a lamb. How's the weather where you're at?
Rainy. And kinda cold. But I'm sick, so even if the weather was beautiful (and it was two days ago [eyebrow]), I'd hate it.
    Lousy Smarch weather.

Who is someone famous that you share birthdays with?
    Boy George
    Donald Trump
    Steffi Graf

    Wheee!

Have you ever been in a car accident?
Nothing more severe than (kinda harsh) fender benders, but yes.

Have you ever been in the newspaper?
Yeah. And I even worked in one for a while!

"How smart are you? How dumb am I?"
    50/50
("I Will Dare" by the Replacements)

    Beware the Ides of March.
Beware the Ideas of March, is more like it.

I like mowing the lawn. And washing the dishes. Ooh! And vacuuming! What chores do you secretly enjoy doing?
I totally forgot my answer for this. Oh well.

So, are we like, ever gonna go to war, or what?
Yeah, yeah. I'll get to working on WD Risk when I feel better, okay? Sheesh.

    What's your favorite soup?
    Chainsaw!!
    Or Chicken Noodle.
    Or minestrone.

    and finally...

March is going to go out like a lamb. What animal would you like to go out as?
A dinosaur. Slowly, and over 65 million years ago.
Or, um, like a dinosaur - killed by an asteroid.
What? I'm sick. Give me a break.

    Saturday, March 15, 2003

My wife is sick. This SUCKS!!

My daughters are, I think, pretty much over the sickness. That's good news, although the fact that they got sick at all bothered me. Especially since I was the one who (most likely) got them sick. Not that I have been sick. My coworkers all have been coming down with stuff and/or coming in with stuff ([rolleyes]) for the past two or three weeks. Thus far, I'm the only one who hasn't caught this particular nasty virus. It's kinda freaky, actually. I mean, I'm glad I'm not getting sick, but dude. If I am the epitome of health, we're doomed.

In other news, tonight we'll watch Alias and tomorrow Steph will watch Children of Dune (I don't know either.)

Man, I still haven't written my GAP interview. Gah. Laziness.
    Wacko Jacko

    Oh, man. Offensive, and FUNNY!!

    Friday, March 14, 2003

A few unconnected (mostly) thoughts. Most people call these "random". [doh2]

    • I learned how to make bullet points using html. God bless the internet.

    • If I were ultra-rich (like Billionaire Rich) I would save the world in the following manner: I would create a gigantic hoax about an upcoming alien invasion.(Perhaps NASA [or SETI] could recieve a "message" from space that would say that this alien army was approaching, and would be here in X number of days/months/whatever.) That way, humanity would be united in a single cause. No more stupid bickering about war or territory or politics or whathaveyou. For a while, at least.

    • Mmmm. Jelly donuts.

    • I'm starting to fear that thorsdad's leaving the board was not, in fact, an early April Fool's joke. This sucks mightily.

    • Haloscan, you fuckers. Once you're up again, I'll be doing a "compilation" post, and then, if it's still cool with Heath, I'll be swapping comment features.

    • Chainsaw is great.

    • bettie- How about this for a blog name: Are you bettie? No, i-r
Yeah, I figured that was a "just me" type of thing. [doh2]

    Tuesday, March 11, 2003

Random thought time. It'll be like 3 or 4 blog entries, combined into one. Yay for effectiveness! Or at least pretending to be!!

    [-] My girls are great.
We played "Duck, duck, goose" today, and they're just adorable.
At one point, Saren picked Harper as the Goose, and they ran around each other rather than the circle. Steph and I collapsed in laughter.
We also played "Pin the tail on the Donkey". I pinned my tail nowhere near the animal! Hooray!

Another game we played was "drop the clothes pins into a jar while standing on a chair" (it might have a shorter name somewhere, but [shrug]). This was fun, and resulted in several broken clothes pins!

"Mother (or Daddy, Saren or Harper, as the case may be) May I?" was another game we played. Being able to say "No" to me when I asked "[girl's name] may I?" was entirely funny to them.

We played Twister for a bit today too. I'm old. I don't bend well anymore.

Earlier Saren & I played Buffy, and I was evil. I totally killed all of the annoying Scoobies! Hooray!! I mean, "Mwahahahaha!!"

Later we're going to play Clue with Saren. I suspect it will be Col. Mustard. (It's always Col. Mustard [eyebrow])

    [-] Home Depot
I've been devirginized to Home Depot. That place is awesome! And I mean it literally. It truly does inspire awe. It's gigantic and machiney and home improvementesque and just WHOA!!!
If you've ever been there before, you know what I mean. If you haven't, check it out some time.
Anywhat, we went there to get a replacement hose for the washing machine. We did get one, but I haven't put it on yet, because I can't remove the old one. Yay for wimpiness!!

    [-] Board stuff
There are some people there who are amusing in that sad kind of way. Yay for lack of lifeness!!
I was going to say something mean-spirited and cruel (and true!!) about some other people, but I'm chicken shit. [wink]

    [-] Road work
I swear to chicken that I don't understand how certain morons manage to stay on the road. Here are my ideas for how to improve the conditions of the roadways of America:

{-} Sue the DMV ~ Everytime there's an accident, let's make the DMV responsible. Eventually, getting a driver's license would be a much more difficult thing to accomplish. Thereby reducing the number of people on the road. And making sure the one's who are still driving are the "best of the best". [up]

{-} Raise the gas prices ~ Gas should be 5 dollars a gallon. That way, unnecessary driving would be eliminated. We're well on our way to doing this already. And yes, I'll bitch about it the whole way there. I'm American, after all.

{-} Bikes ~ More people should ride bicycles than drive automobiles. Period.

{-} Choset ~ This would be great. Except for the whole "destruction of reality" and billions of people dying parts, I guess.
So, this site is a bit of an inspiration, since the guy gets like, 100 comments on his blog entries. It would be kinda cool to be that popular. But at the same time, it might be a bit overwhelming. I'm easily overwhelmed.

I'm also quite exhausted. 11 hours at work, and ...let's just say, that with the vacation I've got coming up (originally planned to go to California, cancelled due to lack of $$) I'll be job hunting.

Anyone know of anyplace that I could work at? Keep in mind that I am intensely lazy, lack anything even remotely known as a skill, and am most definitely NOT a "people person". Yeah. I should get really far. [rolleyes]

In semi-related news, Tiffany, from the traffic department got fired today. That was a shock and a half (probably a much larger one for her). However, I'm seriously considering applying for her position. If I work up the courage, I'll place a call into Maggy (the traffic supervisor) tomorrow.

I'm too tired to even go to the forums today. [frown] I suck.

    Which 'Friend' Are You?Find out!

Speaking of, I totally miss her. She should comment on my blog, just so I know she's still around. [up]
Because I've got nothing interesting to blog about today (or ever, really, but today in particular), I will instead provide some links to other places that will amuse you. Hopefully.

WOOO! I "earned" ten dollars today.

There's a coworker here who from time to time asks me to type up business letters for him (he's an older guy, and his typing skills are, in his words, "horrendous"). Since I'm able to type 80+ words a minute, I go to his computer, and ten to fifteen minutes later, his letter is done. For my "trouble", he pays me. The first time he did it, I wanted to refuse the cash, but he insisted. This time, I needed the money. So yay for godsends!!

Also, yay for spending hours playing Zork paying off.

    The triumphant return of UTP@!!

I suppose that hsould have been bold instead of italics, but ..what's the word? meh. Yes, that's it.

Yup, our favorite anti-hero, UTP@, has returned. (First time this year, if memory serves. ANd I think it doesn't. [wnk])

You'll notice that UTP@ makes typos quite a bit. That's because I'm too tired to correct them as I make htme. (For the most post. Um. Most part.)
Also, ra...UTP@ tends to have less of a blocker between things he thinks and theings he types. Yay for lowered inhibitions! Yay for achieving it without the use of alchol. Not that ther'es anything wrogn with alcohol. Or with being tired. As ...Jess said (somewhere) "Sleep is overrated."

Interesting (not really) things I noticed in the world of internet today:
Geswho said that I'm not posting enough! Dude! SOmeone notices/d my posts. And lack thereof. I'm touched. I would say to geswho that ...um...I will be posting more ...eventually. OR I would jsut say, Dude. Read my blog. I talk there. [tongueyes]

Also, in the review thread for Salvage some people were discussing what 5 by 5 meant. If I were unspoiled and read that, I'd have to be pretty brain dead to not realize that a certain character was back. Idiots.
I know that me and chainsaw and bettie are all the same person (long story) but I just whanted to say that Soupy is fucking funny.

We watched the movie Spiders on SciFi tonight. Holy crap, that movie was AWESOME! It's a flick that is totally all not even real. Or something. POint in case: Nerdy heroine woman has glasses at the start of the movie, about 20 minutes in, she loses the glasses, and they even show "fuzzy cam" from her point of view.
Throughout the rest of the movie, she can see just fine.

    Also, boobs.

What was cool? OH! SPringer, as in Jerry. THat show...dude. It's something I chousldn't wathc, but MAN! It's just too ...something. Ya know? If ou've ever seen it before, then you know exactly what I mean. ALthough to make it better, what they shoudl do is, whenever people fight, instead of editing the hits out, or cutting to audience reaction, they should throw in computer graphics ala the '60's Batman series.
    BAM!
    POW!
    WHITE TRASH!!

It would be the greatest thing ever!

Wha't the only pyramid named in the BIble? I'll tell you. It's the Tower of Babel. That' is almost a rhyme. Of some sort.
    God, UTP@ Talks a LOT.
Oreo talks a lot too. Talkatige cat.
Hey! Jupe and Beth are online. Will they IN me? They've not yet. BGut maybe I'll just keep on talking enstead they do.

    Wow. I'm so tired.
Oh yeah. The other weird thing. IT was weird to read the review thread and NOT see thorsdad's review. [frown] His was one of hte people's I'd seek out to see what they had to say.

Heee. This show is hilarious. It's saying how God was not impressed about the Tower of Babel. And how cigarettes are unique among the ...something. I odn't know. Steph watches weird stuff.

    "I'm totally groovin"

Blah. I think I've talked enough. Maybe I'll talk now to Jupe and or MeJupe. (heee. MeJupe!!!)

    Invented poverty?!

Also, I hope we survive this war thing. Stupid war. [grrrr]

    That's all. Sleep now.

    Take Word Association Test

    take free enneagram test

Hmm. They've got a feature there that allows you to find others who "match" your personality type. I doubt that this is 100% accurate, but, what the heck. Should be interesting to see if I'm anything like my friends or not. [wink]
You know when you go back in time, and then you interfere, and fuck up the future, and then you realize, "Oh shit, I just fucked up the future!", so then you go back in time to stop yourself from fucking the future up, and then you create a paradox?

    I hate when that happens.
I think Giles should appear on tonight's episode of Angel, since it's ASH Wednesday.

    (Yup. I'm feeling better.)

    Roar!

In two days, it'll be 03/03/03. Which means in 3 years and 3 months and 3 days, the world will end. (Except it really won't.) What it really means is that I have 3 years, 3 months, and 3 days to write the fucking story that has been in my mind now for ...4 years? Nope. 5. Wow. I am a monument to procrastination and laziness.

    I'm an idle idol.

    God, I should write.
